It’s time for your seasonal skincare switch up and there’s plenty to try out this spring…
I recommend switching up your skincare as the seasons change from cold to warm and vice versa. Our skin needs completely different products to maximise its appearance in winter than it does in the summer. For example, in the summer we tend to get more vitamin D, in winter we spend more time indoors and experience colder weather. There’s also air conditioning/heating and all sorts of other seasonal elements to consider. Which is why I’m pretty religious in adding key products to my regime as the seasons switch.
This spring/summer there’s some great products to try that will really help your skin to look and feel its best. So, whatever you’re looking for as a target, these should help you out…
PIXI Glow Tonic 250ml
The cult Pixi product should be an absolute staple in your regime year round, so technically I’m cheating with this one. BUT if you’re switching up your skincare and haven’t used this yet, now’s the time to change that. The Pixi Glow Tonic is technically a toner so it acts to clear pores and balance the complexion. It does this by removing all build up and dirt at the same time as refining the pores (oily skinned girls like me LOVE this!) and it contains the wonder ingredient, Glycolic Acid which pulls away the dead skin cells – sort of like an exfoliator. Technically this could be drying but Pixi thought of this and so enriched the formula with Aloe Vera to ensure that any dryness is replaced with extra moisture to avoid peeling etc. The result is clear skin with a more radiant complexion when used regularly. I’ve got friends who’ve used this and sworn by it for clearing blemishes etc.
REN Clean Skincare Overnight Glow Dark Spot Sleeping Cream
One of my current favourite sleeping masks is the REN Clean Skincare Overnight Glow Dark Spot Sleeping Cream which I’ll be honest about – I didn’t think was going to work for me. I don’t have age spots, I’m 32. But what I do have is dullness, dark under eye bags and an inconstant complexion. This has really impressed me for the way it’s evened out the tone across areas where I have a lot of freckles and notice marks from past blemishes. While it does claim to target the dark spots you can have due to age, it doesn’t do that by involving bleaching (the typical way to treat dark spots) it also leaves skin looking brighter and more radiant in the morning. My complexion looks a little more even and everything feels a whole lot softer too – my skin thanks me for using this every time I reach for it.
Kiehl’s Glow Formula Skin Hydrator
When I met with the Kiehl’s team a little while before lock down we spoke about their Glow Formula Skin Hydrator which is one of their most underrated products ever. It’s an absolute joy and if you need an instant skin glow, it’s got you covered. It’s a subtle sheen moisturiser that gives a radiant glow underneath your makeup – so it’s perfect if you go for the dewy look. I usually go for matte looks but this just adds a radiance that makes me look healthy thanks to the pomegranate extract which does the perfect job at energising the skin. And because it’s also a moisturiser it’s the perfect first step in my make up application because I know my skin is completely looked after throughout the day. A few pumps each morning and you’re good to go.
Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsules Line Erasing Night Serum
If you’re never sure how much of your night time skincare products to apply, then capsules like the Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsules are the perfect solution because each one contains the exact single dose needed. And the line erasing night serum inside these is pretty good if anti-ageing is your skin focus during the coming season. Containing retinol and a blend of helpful other ingredients, these capsules fight the signs of ageing by plumping lines and wrinkles and improving the overall way they look. The peptides in the formula also work at the same time to improve the skins elasticity which means it will look more supple and youthful in appearance. Retinol is also a great skincare ingredient for those with blemish prone skin as it helps to minimise the way pores look, so if you have large, open ones you’ll benefit from something like this. And because Elizabeth Arden don’t want you to see any negative side affects they’ve also made sure the formula isn’t drying at all (a common retinol side affect) so you can use it without worrying your spring skin will look or feel dry.
Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm
Now a cleanser should be an essential in your skincare regime no matter what the season and if you’re looking to try a new one then I love the Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm. It’s brilliant at removing makeup and dirt without drying the skin out and it’s got a rich, buttery texture that feels really luxurious on the skin. Unlike a lot of other balms that I’ve tried, this one doesn’t overdo the skin. I’ve found some just too strong, too rich in fragrance and just generally trying to do too many things – and the result is that it breaks me out. I’ve never had that happen with the Emma Hardie Balm and it’s infused with Orange, Neroli, Mandarin, Jasmine and Rose essential oils so it still retains a lovely but natural scent. As well as this the formula harnesses the skincare benefits from those essential oil extracts, for example hydrating the skin and nourishing it naturally, all while you’re doing your first step of your skincare regime. It’s a bathroom shelf must-have.
Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint
Another must-have for your skincare regime is a good, reliable lip balm or treatment. I swear by the Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint because it completely nourishes the lips thanks to its ultra moisturising formula that also helps to fills out lines and improve the overall appearance of the skin. As well as this, they come in a selection of tinted shades too which means that you get the slightest touch of sheer colour which perks up the complexion and gives lips a natural sheen. They’re great for the skincare side of lip care but also when you need a bit of colour coverage too – the very best of both worlds.
So, if you’re looking for some great skincare products to add to your spring and summer regime then these are the best I’d recommend. With a whole host of skincare concerns, and some of us facing multiple areas that we need to target, there’s always a reason to try new things and see what works for you. Especially because skincare time should be fun and should be something that you see the benefit of, and if you don’t – that’s even more reason to switch out your products!
