If you’re in need of some new skincare saviours to get you through self isolation and lock down, then these are the best face masks to try right now…
Toilet roll shortages, mass pasta stockpiling and bad skin seems to be some of the things we’ve all got in common right now – oh, and the fact that none of us have really matched our underwear or worn actual clothes for long during lock down. Oh the joys of self isolation, hey? But on a serious note my social media timelines have never been more full of people complaining about bad skin – it seems even those with the best, most clear skin have felt the effects of too much time at home recently. And it’s not surprising when you think about it – for all of us our everyday environments have changed. Whether you worked in an air-conditioned office or outdoors, your skin has adapted to it’s normal environments and now its changed. And while yes, we can get outside for one walk a day, is that matching the normal amount of vitamin D you’re usually exposed to? Are you using less make up and more skincare? Whatever it is, our skin as a nation is trying to adapt to its new environment and that means a lot of us are noticing differences.
So with that said I’ve been trying out a lot of things, a lot. And I’ve got a very large stash of the best face masks out there in my room – drawers of sheet masks, drawers or pots/tubes and creams as single-use items to give me a quick fix when needed. But which ones really are the best face masks for right now, all things considered?
Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask
One of the best face masks I’ve ever used for hydration, the cult-status mask was put on the skincare map when people like the Kardashians said they used it. And whether you love or loathe them, they have perfect skin – so when I last went to America I stocked up on it (you can get it in the UK here for £22.50.) And it didn’t disappoint – when my skin feels dry, or a bit dull and needs a heavy dose of hydration, I find this gives instant relief and a glowy radiance – it’s one of few masks that gives instant results in terms of appearance and my skin feels and looks happier after each use. While I could use it alone, I find it works best when I’ve already used a mask, say something for clearing/beating oil and then following with this – it’s always been my second mask when I’m in a masking mood. And it just gives me all the moisture I need – it’s an instant thirst hit for the skin. I absolutely adore it and how it leaves me feeling.
Summer Fridays Overtime Mask
Weirdly I tried the Summer Fridays Overtime Mask before their original Jet Lag Mask. Don’t ask me why, I have no answer. But it’s been one of the best face masks in my collection ever since. Designed for those of us with congested skin, it’s everything you need if you have problem areas like spots, oil, dullness etc. It’s got pumpkin, apricot seed powder and oat kernel protein and acts to exfoliate skin when applied and rubbed in, buffing away dead and dirty skin/cells and then using the rest of it’s vitamins and ingredients to penetrate the skin and brighten it. So overall it exfoliates, clears, brightens and encourages radiance. It’s a great all-rounder and perfect to be used first, and then follow with the Jet Lag mask.
Kiehl’s Avocado Nourishing Hydration Mask
Another great mask for dehydration is the Avocado Nourishing Hydration Mask from Kiehl’s which nourishes but in a more subtle way. This one feels so different on the skin – like you’ve actually mashed up avocado and put it on your face. It’s fun that’s for sure! Because of the texture, it’s not creamy and quite solid, but warms to the fingertips when applied making it a bit easier to spread and blend. I find this one leaves my skin feeling so incredibly soft and plumped after each use, not unnaturally so, but just in a really nice, clean way. And because it’s Kiehl’s you know it’s safe to use even if you have really sensitive skin. If you have dryness and want a delicate rescue this is a great one to try.
Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask
If you suffer with blemishes and breakouts like me, then this mask is going to do all sorts for you. It’s one of the best face masks for breakouts that I’ve found and I was so pleased to find a fresh pot recently in my Look Fantastic Easter Egg. It’s pricey at £68 a pot although you can use code LADYWRITES here and get 15% off BUT it’s fully worth it because it’s enriched with Hungarian Moor mud which cleanses and nourishes and if you’ve ever had breakouts or excess oil, you’ll know the things you want in your face masks are mud and charcoal to draw those impurities out. I find this really helps to bring anything to the surface and then a few days later things look so much better – it’s one I use weekly to ensure I’m on top of the process and don’t allow my pores to clog.
Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask
Manuka Honey is one of natures best, natural ingredients and has so many benefits. When used in skincare like in this Antipodes face mask it’s brilliant for deep cleansing, fighting blemishes and combating a dull complexion. The almost antibacterial properties in it mean that it fights spots so well, that when used before bed you’ll notice a clear lack of redness in the area by morning. This has long been one of the best face masks in my collection for those breakout days and I find that my skin feels instantly a lot softer when I wash the excess off after each use. I think you could even use it as a spot treatment if you wanted to.
Origins Drink Up 10 Minute Hydrating Mask
If you’re looking for a quick fix then one of the best face masks you can try is the Origins Drink Up version, the 10 Minute Hydrating Mask. It’s like a double strength moisturiser in my opinion, so great if you need a quick fix for moisture, that’s not going to take ages to absorb and it’s going to ensure skin feels soft and looks brighter right away. And because it absorbs and has no sticky residue you can use your normal make up afterwards with no issues. I find this is great in the mornings if I’m filming for YouTube and need to brighten things up quickly and I’ll apply it while I do my hair so I’m ready to film my tutorial etc. It’s also beautifully scented because it’s got apricot in it and reminds me of apricot yogurt.
Drunk Elephant F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial
If you’ve read my blog for long then you’ll know I love Drunk Elephant and I buy pretty much everything they make, when they released their first mask I ordered it the day it dropped and it’s been a nice addition to my collection. Another mask that’s good for moisture, the F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial is an overnight mask that works while you sleep to deliver heavy moisture levels and strengthen the skin’s acid mantle. I particularly like this one and class it as one of the best face masks in my collection because it can be mixed with your normal serum and give skin a really heavy dose of whatever it needs so you can kind of customise it. I add my normal night serum to it and find it makes my skin feel really looked after by morning. Anything that works over night is a favourite of mine.
So if you’re looking for something to perk your skin up and help it adjust to self isolation right now then these are seven of the best face masks I can recommend that you try. While we look after the pores, the hydration levels and fight blemishes, it’s really important to enjoy our skincare time too and that means a great face mask session as often as we can for those pamper points.
