Tips for a cosy and warm home in winter

Scented Candles

The easiest way I’ve found to add an instant cosy vibe to my home is by lighting a scented candle. I have a huge collection which I rotate depending on my mood and they’ve all been hand picked by me to ensure I love their scent. Picking the right scented candle is as personal as picking your favourite perfume, so it’s completely unique to your preferences. But I tend to go for vanilla or sandalwood-based scents because they have a subtle musk that lingers around the room nicely and makes it smell and feel inviting and warm. During the day I sometimes add lavender based scents if I’m working and want to relax at my desk or something sweet to wake myself up during the afternoon lull. In the evenings I love to go for more woody and rich earthy tones to really take that cosy vibe up a level while I relax on the sofa and end my day. The right scent will evoke a personal reaction – lavender will relax, something citrus based will awaken and something earthy will calm – so you can create the perfect ambience for your home instantly with the right one. Candles don’t just scent the home though, they also offer a warm glow that adds to the overall appearance of a room. In the evening the glow that they cast is relaxing and calming, so they’re an instant way to make your home feel cosy and warm.

Tips for keeping your home cosy and warm in winter

Personal Home Accessories

Making your home your own is vital for the way it makes you feel and it’s really easy when you think about it. No matter what space you’re working with, your choice of home accessories are personal to you and you can ensure each room is as cosy and warm as possible with your choices. It’s vital that a space feels like your own before you’ll consider it warm and cosy, so add personal touches where possible. Things like art and prints, books and decorative items, things like candle sticks or photographs will all create a personal space for you to enjoy. Filling your space with things you love will add to the way a room and a home makes you feel, so if cosy is your aim then fill your surfaces with precious things that you enjoy seeing. Another one of my cosy home tips is plants. Plants can add a feel of the outside that refreshes the mind, while things like cushions and rugs on the floor can add a practical solution for keeping warm. Spark joy in the items you surround yourself with and cosiness will soon be your home vibe.

Look After Your Boiler

A very practical and essential way to ensure your home is warm this winter is to look after your boilers. While it’s not as glamorous as shopping for new candles or cosy soft furnishings, it is as vital for keeping your home at a good temperature, because without heating you’ll struggle to create that perfect cosy space. Thankfully Local Heroes have a whole catalogue of reliable trades people that you can call on for anything boiler related. They’ll find the right person for the job and they only recommend the most efficient and top quality in the field. They also offer a recommendable boiler finance option fromless than £24 a month that means should the worst happen and you’re faced with the need for a whole new boiler and installation, you don’t have to worry about finding thousands of pounds upfront. Thus giving you financial peace of mind when it comes to keeping your home cosy and warm all winter long.

Soft Furnishings

One of my very obvious cosy home tips is Soft furnishings. They are another easy warm to crank up the cosiness in your home but also help with adding warmth – both practically and visually. While rugs can stop a cold, hard floor sucking the heat away, cushions and blankets can give you something to snuggle! Plus if you coordinate with your room decor they look like the finishing touches and add to the overall style and appearance. We have really cosy blankets and throws in most rooms of our house – especially the ones where I spend down time, like my lounge and bedroom. As I’m often cold and chilly at this time of year, I usually need a blanket to put over me in the evenings to keep nice and warm and snuggling down relaxes me no end too. In my lounge I have a shelf full of amazing and warm, snuggly blankets for the evenings because as someone on the constant search for the perfect cosiness vibe, I love buying them! We also have a thick and warm throw over our bed which matches our colour theme in the room and gives me an extra level of warmth if the night become too cold. Looks great and it’s practical too.

How to keep your home cosy and warm

Soft Lighting

One thing most of us dislike about winter is the dark mornings and long nights – the lack of sunshine can make you feel a little downbeat at times. You can combat light issues with great, soft lighting choices. Create an instant warmth and cosy appeal with soft diffused lighting solutions, such as table lamps with a golden white bulb or a floor lamp that casts a subtle and diffused glow across the room. Avoid bright white lights or harsh overhead features that create a less relaxing environment. If you do have them in your home, switch them off during the evenings and use the other lighting solutions mentioned to create an alternative atmosphere that’s practical, warm and cosy in one.

So in the quest for the perfect home, whether you’re looking to make big changes from tiling a new bathroom or decorating your lounge, right through to maintaining or replacing a boiler, there’s a local hero to help. And for everything else there’s these cosy home tips like scented candles, snuggly blankets, cosy cushions and home accessories galore to create that perfect space you can enjoy this winter.
