If you’re looking for a way to treat yourself or a loved one to a beauty gift this festive season then why not consider a clean beauty alternative?
With so much being done in beauty to see improvements in all areas to make things more eco friendly and green across the board, there’s a huge amount of brands to discover if you’re looking to step more into sustainable regimes. With everything from fully vegan friendly and cruelty free brands right through to those banning parabens, sulphates and all non ‘green’ ingredients, there’s a lot to discover if you’re just dipping your toe in the water.
So let’s look at some great brands and products to start with if you’re at the beginning of your green beauty journey…
Tropic Skincare Makeup
I’ve been so fortunate to go on a journey with Tropic this year. I was one of the first people to discover their make up collection and the first to swatch the entire range on my YouTube channel. Previously only having a few select items of colour cosmetics, when they launched their make up, I was blown away. The quality is excellent, payoff of all products is beautiful and the formulas are super gentle. It’s just a really lovely, good performance make up range. I highly recommend trying out the Lip Glaze Trio with three lip glaze shades that sit between a lipstick, lip balm and lip gloss. Shiny colour that glazes the lips with a wet finish, it’s a great everyday formula. Enriched with powerful, natural botanicals they’r a green friendly make up brand to check out.
Like the newer make up range, the existing skincare collection from Tropic has a huge amount going for it – it’s vegan friendly, cruelty free, never tested on animals and made with a blend of ingredients that comes from owner Susie’s childhood and mimics a recipe theme for your skin. 100% naturally derived the ABC Skincare Collection is a great place to start as it features a complete skincare regime including cleanser, toner, face mask and the famous Skin Fest which is like a moisturiser but packed full of over 20 botanical and natural ingredients to feed the skins need for hydration. If you want to see what green beauty can do for your skin then a complete skincare overhaul like this with complimenting products is a great place to start.
A brand created by Love Islanders Camila and Jamie, Love Jamila was formed when Camila was on a mission in Lebanon and wanted to spread a wider message of beauty being from deep within. They have a huge range of products to promote, but the lovely Library Candles are beautiful as a starting point. Made from 100% natural rapeseed wax and a blend of high quality botanical oils, they burn for 10-15 hours each and offer a unique fragrance. The Serenity Scent has ylang ylang and neroli to give a sultry heart that’s romantic and exotic all in one. And it makes a lovely gift too.
REN Clean Skincare
REN are a great brand to get on board with for all things clean beauty. Working to become fully sustainable by 2020 they are working on every element of their brand from packaging to formulas. For example, the ribbon on this cute hanging decoration is made from recycled bottles and contains a travel size of the cult AHA Tonic which is fully vegan in formula too. Designed to clean pores at a deep level to leave brighter more radiant skin, it’s one of those products that’s great for those who want a smooth and glowy complexion. REN also have ranges with packaging made from recycled sea plastic so there’s a lot to check out from them.
An organic and vegan make up brand from Australia, Inika are now recognised all over the world for their products. Designed to give customers an option away from harmful chemicals, they’ve replaced key ingredients with pure and natural alternatives that offer a more gentle and green-friendly approach to beauty. There are so many brilliant products but the mascara is a stand-out one for me. Their Christmas gift sets are fabulous as a place to start, even post-festive season too. The Jet Set Ready Kit has a travel sized of it and a lovely nude pink lipstick for every day. All in a natural make up bag you can use forever.
I’ve fully reviewed Bee Good before but they’re an amazing British brand creating fantastic facial skincare products with natural bees honey here in the UK. Their Plant A Butterfly Meadow Ethical Gift Set is a lovely starting place this festive season as it contains three beautiful lip balms all made with beeswax which is sourced ethically and naturally. The Raspberry and White Chocolate is my favourite as it smells beautiful! The set also has a lovely hand cream and a Tin of Butterfly Wildflower Seedballs which can be used in your garden or flower box to produce a valuable nectar source for our bees next spring. A British brand with strong clean beauty values.
Saint Iris Adriatica
A great cruelty free brand, Saint Iris Adriatica are also a brand who are 100% naturally fragranced and are free from parabens, silicones, sulphates and all the nasties you’ll want to avoid if clean beauty is your thing. They have harnessed the signature scents of the adriatic and use 75 essential minerals in their formulas. The Serenity Salve is a relaxing body moisturiser that adds hydration where it’s needed most and leaves skin glowing and nicely plumped thanks to it’s hyaluronic acid. The Energy Cleanse is another great one to try – this daily cleanser uplifts and awakens the senses leaving you in a lifted state of mood after use – perfect for cold winter mornings! It softens, soothes and creates a great base complexion for the day. A lovely brand to check out for a more sustainable beauty regime.
A huge brand with a cult status, it’s nice to find somewhere that has the recognition and offers a cleaner alternative to everyday beauty. Illamasqua are cruelty free and have an ever growing vegan product range that’s fundamentally a high performance and fun. I adore their Beyond Powder Illuminator and have repurchased it so many times afresh because it’s a subtle glow to the skin that can be used all over the face, not just on the cheekbones. It adds a natural radiance that makes the complexion look healthy and like much of their range is used by celebrity and pro make up artists the world over. If you’re looking for a well-known brand in the green make up arena to check out, this is it.
So whether you’re looking for make up, skincare or treats like candles, there’s a whole clean beauty discovery waiting just for you this festive season. The start of the new year is always a great time to delve into something new beauty-wise, so why not consider dipping your toe into cleaner beauty brands and see how it goes? These brands and products are all a great starting point.
