Three Great Winter Serums To Improve Your Complexion

Three Serums To Improve Your Complexion This Winter

A good serum within your skincare regime will penetrate much deeper within your skin and deliver the skincare properties further down than normal creams or moisturisers can. Which is why a good winter serum should be essential on your bathroom shelf.

If skincare if your thing and you’re hardcore about looking after your skin then you’ll likely have lotions and potions galore on your vanity table or bathroom shelf. And within that you’ll probably have a lot of targeted skincare products like serums. Alternatively you may be someone who doesn’t experiment with their skincare very much so you’re looking to branch out into something new. Either way it can be difficult to find a new product to try, can’t it?

But as winter approaches (hasn’t the temperature dropped suddenly though?!) it’s prime time to consider upping your skincare and adopting a new serum into your regime. A lot of my friends ask me about serums and question why I think they’re important. The answer is that yes, a daily moisturiser is imperative but a serum is going to work deeper within the skin and carry those active properties further down into your pores and thus delivering a skincare ‘hit’ much deeper within the skin. And the further down it can get, the better your complexion will be. And this applies no matter what your skincare concern is – a serum will work the same way no matter what it’s working towards. Think of it as the little delivery man going that bit further!

Great winter serums

So let’s talk about three great winter serums that will help bring a brighter and healthier complexion this season…

Dermalogica Phyto-nature Firming Serum – £130

On the pricier end of the serum spectrum we have the Dermalogica Phyto-nature Firming Serum which is £130 – but before you write it off, let’s talk. As someone who learned the importance of good skincare and has seen first hand how much better skin can look when you take care of it – if something works then I’ll use it. Whether it costs a couple of quid or it’s a considered purchase, price to me is irrelevant when it comes to skincare – it’s the quality and performance I’m interested in.

The Phyto-nature Firming Serum claims to improve the appearance of fine lines after just one application – which I think anyone over the age of 30 will be drawn to. It’s hard to find products that really do work instantly but Dermalogica can be trusted time and time again. And with continued use you should see a visible reduction in wrinkles within 4 weeks. This means it’s one for those of us who are starting to notice the signs of ageing on our skin. This serum will deliver plant-derived bio-extracts deep into the epidermis (skin) to work on tightening it, while it also contains Hyaluronic Acid which acts to fill those fines lines and wrinkles at the same time. Altogether you’re getting some strong, targeted anti-ageing skincare with this one. So if you’re 30+ and serious about skincare then this could be for you.

REN Perfect Canvas Clean Primer £40

As a huge fan of REN Clean Skincare I was very eager to try their new Perfect Canvas Clean Primer. Designed to go after your moisturiser and before you make up – it’s my kinda product. Usually you apply serum first then the moisturiser (or I do any way!) but this one is a primer and serum in one. It’s got a formula designed to create a better balance of bacteria on the skin which should effectively control breakouts – hurray! And in addition it plumps the skin, including fine lines and wrinkles and creates a flawless complexion base that’s great for applying make up over the top of. All without the use of any silicone so it’s doing it without clogging the pores and still allowing them to breathe.

So if you’re a make up lover like me then this could be the serum for you as it’s designed to generate good bacteria, fight blemishes and smooth the skin all while acting exactly like a primer too!

Tan-Luxe Super Glow Hyaluronic Self-Tan Serum – £35

If you’re looking for something to banish the winter blues then the Tan-Luxe Super Glow is the winter serum for you. This hyaluronic self-tan serum is skincare and sunless tanning in one. Containing 7 superfoods within the formula it delivers intense hydration right down in the pores and increases skin function while reducing water loss – so skin is healthier because it holds hydration better for longer. And then on the flip-side it’s also a tanning product that will gradually tan your skin over several days. Sounds perfect for the winter right?

Combining it’s formula and tanning properties means that you’re boosting collagen and also brightening your complexion with a sun-kissed glow. I honestly wish I’d tried Tan-Luxe long before I did and this primer will be sticking around on my shelf for a long time as I hate how pale I get during winter. Perfect for those of us looking for multi-purpose products within their skincare.

I love the sound of the Ren one! I’m a huge fan of the brand anyway, although I’m sure it would take a while to get used to applying the serum after my SPF x
