You know it’s Christmas when Too Faced get festive with the palettes! So here’s my full Too Faced Gingerbread Extra Spicy review & swatches…
If you read my blog regularly then you know that I am a hard-core Too Faced addict. I’m obsessed with their products and love how they’ve been able to make premium beauty fun. Their products generally give a great level of make up while keeping things fresh, fun and enjoyable. I don’t think there’s another brand out there who do it *quite* like Too Faced! Which is why when Christmas comes around I get extra excited because there’s nothing more festive than their Christmas collection.
I’ve got a review of some of my top picks from their 2019 Christmas range coming very soon (keep your eyes peeled!) but today I want to focus on the brand new Gingerbread Extra Spicy palette because there’s always so much to say about an eyeshadow palette that I tend to give them their own review.
Last year we had the Gingerbread Spice Palette which was gorgeous and I still reach for it a lot – it’s such a versatile palette that works well throughout the seasons because it’s got lots of warm tones that pretty much suit any time of year. But this year we’ve got the Gingerbread Extra Spicy, which is like a v2 and amped up version of the original. It’s packing a lot more colour, and a deeper intensity and I just love it, so it was a very welcome addition to my collection!
The palette itself has 18 shades, and it’s currently retailing for £39 with free delivery. That works out at £2.16 per shadow. Which may sound pricey but it’s on par with a lot of the premium brands these days who now sit in the £40-£50 price bracket for a palette. As well as price to consider, it’s also limited edition so if you want it, snap it up quick. The original last year sold out in the UK before Christmas and I suspect the same will happen again. So don’t be facing buyers regret or sit on the fence with this one! Treat yourself to a little pre-Christmas purchase if this palette is calling you like it was me. You can always pop it under the Christmas tree and tell yourself it’s from Santa if you want… *wink*
Within the 18 shadows you’ve got a variety of finishes including mattes, shimmers and glitters – and a good amount of each to help cover all your bases. The shades themselves are all warm toned, very rich and deep in colour and it’s very much like you’re baking gingerbread when you open it thanks to the intensity of shades. If you like warm toned eye looks then this would be your perfect palette. It’s got warm champagne tones, hot oranges and burnt rust tones and a few brown tones too. There’s also a shimmery black with teal glitter speckles for when you really want to smoke that crease out.
Let’s take a closer look at the swatches, because I know that’s what you’re waiting for!
Looks-wise, there’s a lot to be done with this palette. I like the fact that the warmth of the palette colour selection overall combined with the individual tones of each shade means that you’ve got complete transitional tones covered. Those perfect mattes to create a crease that blends into a transition tone is covered with Cookie Call (brown) and Gingerbread Glam (light brown) to name but a few. And the payoff is really lovely from them all. I find that a lot of the shadows in the Too Faced palettes work the same – the mattes are light and give even payoff. There’s nothing muddy about them, and they blend really nicely. Because they offer a light, even coverage, it’s really easy to build them up to give a huge payoff – which I like because you’ve got the best of both worlds in one. A single application will give a minimal, more natural payoff and eye look, or you can build several applications to create a deep colour. Either way it’s even and blendable so it makes it easy to create your chosen look.
The shimmers and glitters are buttery and rich – one swipe is all you need to see the colour work and I love how the glittery finishes really make your eyes pop. I can imagine myself wearing this a lot in the coming party season days and nights. Because that’s the great thing about this palette – it’s got all the warm tones needed to take you from day to night with the same look. Plus the lasting power when used with a primer means the eyeshadow doesn’t budget once applied. Which makes it worth every penny in my book.
So if you’re looking for a treat this Christmas, or just love the festive ranges from Too Faced as much as me, then I can’t recommend this palette highly enough. It’s a warm-toned eye look dream, it smells DIVINE and the colours will lend themselves to looks all year long. Make sure you snap one up before they sell out or ask Santa to bring you it on Christmas Day. I know you’ve been good enough so I can put in a good word!
