When I found out that I could use an app to control my face mask sessions I was intrigued – but sceptical. Could my phone really be the key to giving me the best face mask session I’d had at home in ages? Time to put the Foreo UFO to the test and see…
When it comes to face masks I’m a big time fan. I have drawers beyond drawers of face masks of all kinds. Some that I use once, don’t really get an opinion of and never really use again and then some which I use religiously because they never let me down. I like sheet masks, liquid masks and every other type of mask you can think of. As a skincare addict I’m always intrigued to find the best products but with face masks the appeal stems from being able to find that ‘one-hit-wonder’ product that can transform my skin in one use. I live a very busy life so I need my skincare to work. Quickly. Not just that but in the evenings, nothing relaxes me more than a good pamper and that is primarily led by a face mask.
So when I first heard about the Foreo UFO a while back I was so intrigued because at £249 it’s a very pricey device for face masking. But I have a really high impression of Foreo as a brand and I’ve yet to hear a bad thing said about them. The UFO is basically a device that’s going to connect with your phone and create the ultimate partnership to deliver a high-performance face mask session. And combined with Korean skincare formulas in the accompanying face masks that you use with it, it’s the sort of product that you’ll find yourself reaching for more than you expect.
When you turn on the UFO it pairs with your phone (as long as you’ve already downloaded the app – it’s free) and you follow the instructions to get set up. You remove the top ‘lid’ and add your mask which is like a sheet mask and just an individual piece of material soaked in the formula. The device works together with the way skin reacts to heat and cold, along with gentle pulsations that feel like a soft vibration to deliver the skincare within the ‘sheet mask’ into your skin at an optimum level.
At first you’ll notice the warming sensation which is really calming – I love this stage as you can feel the device warming through very quickly as you move it around your face, following the motions on the screen. The way it warms is custom to the mask and the skin and it means the skincare ingredients can get into the skin much quicker – and so work better. You’ll notice the vibrations of the device too, which feels like a face massage and is another way the UFO encourages the skincare to work properly and deeper down. All the while you’re following along with the directions on screen of how and where to move the device while it works. It’s very easy and there’s nothing complicated about it at all.
When required there’s also the cooling mode which as we all know – cooling is great for reducing puffiness. The cooling mode is usually a nice way to finishing your face mask and it just helps to seal in the skincare and tighten the pores. If you’ve ever wondered why you use cold water after a toner or second skincare step then it’s got the same principles – cold temperatures keeps the pores closed.
Another really nifty part of using the UFO is that it also uses light therapy – which in itself if you had done in a salon would be really expensive. So the fact that you can do it from home yourself whenever you want is certainly very impressive. And all of the combinations of these different modes will depend on the mask you’re using and the results you want to see – targeted skincare to a salon level at home.
Using the UFO only takes 90 seconds per day so you can use it as many times as you want – which will save you pricey salon facials. There’s masks for different things but my favourites and most used ones are Matte Maniac and Call It A Night. Matte Maniac is the one I use most often because my skin is really oily and I notice a huge difference within just one mask and session with the UFO. I like to know I’ve worked my skin into the position where it’s working properly and not secreting too much oil – and looking after my pores is the key to this. And the Call It A Night mask is great before bed at prepping skin to look fully relaxed by morning – I use this one if I’ve not been getting much sleep and want to improve the overall tone and texture of my skin.
While the Foreo UFO is a considered purchase, if you’re serious about skincare then it’s absolutely something you’ll want in your weekly regime. I use mine religiously and it’s already far outweighed the costs of salon facials and I can use it whenever I like in just 90 seconds. It’s also got that inner satisfaction level too, whereby I love doing it at home and knowing I’m getting top quality results – it just feels really cool to use! So if you’re looking to take your ordinary face mask session up a level and bring them into the online era then the Foreo UFO is perfect!
