Christmas Gift Guide: The Candle Edit

Christmas Gift Guide: The Candle Edit

Christmas candles are one of the things that I think make a beautiful gift (or treat for yourself) at this time of year . So I always like to collate the very best ones on offer and create my Christmas Gift Guide: the Candle Edit…

If you’re buying a gift for someone and want it to be special and you know they like home gifts then a scented candle is ideal. It’s also a great gift for anyone who love fragrance because it offers something different to perfume, but still gives a nicely scented treat.

As someone who loves scented candles and has them burning nearly all of the time, I adore them and can’t ever have too many. So I thought I’d create a list of this year’s best Christmas candles to help make your candle shopping a little easier…

Neom Christmas Wish 1 Wick Scented Candle – £32

If you like your Christmas candles to be heavily orange and mandarin focused then this is the candle for you. The Neom Christmas Wish 1 Wick Scented Candle is everything that reminds me of Christmas and winter mornings. In fact, if you’ve ever baked orange slices to make your own decorations then this is exactly what you’ll be reminded of with this candle. It’s got cinnamon and Tonka Bean which add that heavy and festive scent to the orange tones and it fills the air so quickly when it’s burnt. As with all Neom candles there’s also an almost aromatherapy-like element to the scent which makes me feel really relaxed and calm, which I think means this is more than a candle, it’s an experience too. So it’s a really lovely gift to give.

ARK Nutmeg, Cinnamon & Clove Luxury Home Candle – £27

If you want to capture the essence of Christmas with a warm heart to the scent then you’ll love the ARK Nutmeg, Cinnamon & Clove Luxury Home Candle. It’s got a real festive edge to the fragrance thanks to the nutmeg and cinnamon, and the clove warms it up nicely with its spice. Blended together it has an almost vanilla-like softness so it’s not too heavy or overbearing – perfect if you like baby soft scents in your home. The scent itself fills my home with 15 minutes and you can still find traces of it hours afterwards too – which is always the sign of a good quality candle. There’s also a travel sized version too, which comes in a travel tin so you can take it away with you when you travel or visit friends etc. This means there’s a choice of sizes, making your shopping even easier.

Norma & Dorothy Personalised Candle – £14

Everyone loves a personalised gift at Christmas and this Norma & Dorothy candle is a great one for the candle lover in your life. It comes in the sweetest and most traditional glass jar and you can have your name added as well as the name of the person you’re gifting it to. The scent is Christmas to the max, so it’s the perfect gift for this time of year. Orange and cinnamon blends together to give a fruity scent with a lovely edge that burns for up to 25 hours – great value for £14. So not only does it smell lovely, the personalised packaging and the fragrance together create a totally festive gift that’s completely unique.

Jo Malone London Basil and Neroli Candle – £48

Nothing says ‘luxury candle’ more than Jo Malone, and what girl (or guy) wouldn’t love finding one of those yellow and black boxes under their tree this Christmas? I know I would (that’s a huge hint to my husband!) I love the Basil and Neroli home candle at the moment, it reminds me of an English garden in the winter, first thing in the morning when it’s crisp and frosty outside. The scent itself is not quite sweet but not really the opposite either. It’s outdoorsy but warm enough to burn beautifully throughout the home. Anything with Neroli has a beautiful and subtle musk which means it works well for both candle lovers who are male or female and it’s a really lovely and soft scent to have burning throughout the day. And because it’s not a traditional Christmas scent, it might be one your gift receiver saves until after Christmas for a January pick-me-up. Perfect.

Molton Brown Bizarre Brandy Candle – £42

For some reason it took me quite a while to try this year’s Molton Brown Christmas scent. But when I did, I was blown away. It’s delicious and unlike any other candle I’ve had before. Bizarre Brandy sounds like it should be for a man right? But I know both men and women will love this. The scent itself has base notes of cedarwood, incense and tobacco – so it’s easy to see where the masculinity within the fragrance comes from. But it’s also got orange top notes which add a fruity sweetness to it. And the coffee and aged brandy heart notes are quite unisex so it’s going to appeal to all. It’s absolutely addictive and while the fragrance as an eau de toilette would probably better suit a man, the candle works perfectly as a home scent that everyone can enjoy. I intend to fully stock up on these before they’re gone. It’s a scent I’m already addicted to!

L’Occitane Cocon de Serenite Candle – £20

If you’re wanting to give the gift of a candle that’s been blended specifically to help someone relax, then the L’Occitane Relaxing Candle, the Cocon de Serenite is perfect for that. And even more perfectly, for such a luxury brand, the candle is only £20 – which I like even more! The scent itself has lavender within it which is the scent I find I catch the most when it’s burning, alongside the geranium and mandarin which create this fruit and floral blend that’s really soft and yet still quite fun. It’s calming to be around and I find that it creates a really soothing atmosphere at home. When I’m burning it, I just feel a little bit more relaxed than usual. And of course, it’s got that perfect aromatherapy-like blend to it that you associate with the elite products from L’Occitane.

Espa Energising Candle – £26

Another great candle for giving encouraging a personal reaction is the Espa Energising Candle, which is the most perfect candle I’ve ever had for the morning times. It’s got everything you need to help wake you up, energise and motivate you. I think it comes from the blend of peppermint, Eucalyptus and lime within the scent itself, because altogether it’s just the most ‘fresh’ scent you can think of. It reminds me of something like a breath of fresh air to the home – without the chillness of being outside! As with all Espa products it’s very much a spa-theme to the scent: so think indulgent, rich and luxurious. It’s perfect if you know someone who’s very active and likes a spa day because this way they can create their own spa at home.

Diptyque Lucky Flower Candle – £53

Up there as one of this year’s most expensive Christmas candles, but a total treat-worth-having is the Diptyque Lucky Flower Candle. There’s a smaller version available for £30 which is 70g, but the full size is £53 for £190 so it makes more sense to pay a little more and get the bigger size. I buy a Diptyque candle every Christmas, and it’s not always one of the Christmas candles, but sometimes one of their forever scents. This year I went for the Lucky Flower Candle because it’s a great mix of both a Christmas scent as well as something a bit more everyday. It’s got anise and clove to give it a festive heart but the top notes are almost floral, so it’s the sort of scent that reminds me of a Christmas bouquet – and a nice change to the traditional Christmas candles. Plus the packaging is designed to bring good luck – symbols from all over the world have been placed on the design to bring good luck for the new year, and I think that gives it a lovely edge as a gift.

Boots Vanilla & Cedarwood Boxed Candle – £8

Not all beautifully scented candles need to break the bank. In fact, I adore this Boots Vanilla & Cedarwood Boxed Candle and it’s only £8 (in fact right now it’s only £5.33 in their sale!) It’s got the beautiful vanilla tone that carries a scent throughout your house and just settles everywhere nice and gently so it’s not overwhelming, but the cedarwood within it is also really lovely and adds a more rich element when burning. So it feels like the sort of scent that has the best of both worlds. I’d say that no matter what your scented candle preference is, everyone would like this one as it’s so versatile.

MOR Emporium Classics Snow Gardenia Candle – £27.99

If you’re looking for a huge candle to make a huge impact then the MOR Emporium Classics Snow Gardenia candle is perfect! And big! Plus it has a different edge over others – the wax is black as well as made from soy, which means that it burns with a deeper intensity. The gold ornate lid makes the jar looks exquisite and luxurious so it’s a gift that will make a statement for sure. The scent itself is one of my favourites from MOR it’s very much a cooler scent, think winter garden with flowers and a lovely musk from the base notes of sandalwood. If you want something for the evenings that’s not a Christmas scent then you’ll love burning this – it’s nice, gentle and long lasting. Plus it’s stunning to look at.

MOR Emporium Classics Snow Gardenia Candle

So there we have it! This years Gift Guide if you’re looking for Christmas candles. I can vouch for how wonderful all of these smell so it’s well worth checking each and every one out.

Let me know which sounds like the sort of scent you’d like in your home next?
