Let’s look at five top facial SPF’s to stock up on during the summer months, or for whenever you’re travelling…
There’s absolutely no need to suffer sunburn any more. Not that there ever was really. But now we’re so much more educated on the effects of sun damage, what it can do, lead to or inflict on our bodies – means that there is absolutely no reason not to protect yourself. What’s more, is that we’re very widely educated on how to avoid sun damage and the market is flooded with products to help. Even make up and ‘non sun care’ products now often come with the option of a little SPF because the beauty industry knows it’s the first port of call for sun protection.
So with that said, I thought now would be a great opportunity to look at some of the top facial SPFs to shop for during the summer, or for whenever else you may be travelling somewhere that requires some sun protection. Having just got back from my honeymoon in Mexico, I tried a lot of creams (my suitcase weighed a tonne taking them all with me!) but I was determined to find the ones that worked best, offered the most and felt the nicest on the skin. So here’s five top facial SPF’s to try:
Ren Clean Skincare Clean Screen Mineral SPF30 (£30)
I’m a big REN Clean Skincare fan and have tried quite a lot of their lovely products over the past 12 months or so. But as soon as I heard about their Clean Screen Mineral SPF30 I knew I’d be taking it on holiday with me.
As someone with really oily skin, sun creams can be a real pain to work with as they make my skin really oily and shiny. And even though when I’m on holiday I’m mostly laying on a beach so I don’t care that much, oily and shiny skin isn’t a good look for anyone. This SPF30 is a matte sun cream, that doesn’t look shiny or oily when used – not even hours after application. Which I personally loved. It meant that I could apply a layer in the morning and it would last until lunch time without looking iffy and I loved how little shine there was when used. It’s quite a thick, white cream, so it does make skin look a little pale at first, but for a high coverage level and no shine it was worth it for me. I will 100% be rebuying for my next holiday in October too.
Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense SPF30 (£30)
Another top facial SPF is the Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defence SPF30. Which is another product I nearly ran to empty on my holiday. Whereas the REN Clean Screen Mineral offers a great matte finish with SPF30, this one offers the same SPF30 minus the matte but with a great bronzing tint.
So while you’re covered from sun damage this also gives skin the most beautiful and natural looking glow with its tint. It’s a subtle bronze colour that blends into the skin really nicely and knowing it contains antioxidants and other ingredients to help make skin look younger and more radiant, meant I had full confidence in using this. More than just a sun protection, this offers skincare principles as well as a lovely tint for some coverage. It’s a great holiday product I can’t recommend highly enough.
Image Skincare PREVENTION+ Daily Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30+ (£48)
Seeing as I had so many amazing products to try in the name of finding the best ones, my husband stepped in to help me. He started using the Image Skincare PREVENTION+ Daily Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30+ and he really rated it.
As someone who wouldn’t usually wear anything tinted, this was more appealing to him for the protection level (SPF30+) and the fact that it blended so nicely. A little of this product goes a long way and it offered him protection all day long. He swims a lot while we’re away and he found it was still giving coverage even though he was constantly in and out of the pool. The tint it gives would be quite noticeable and give good coverage on fair skin, but as someone with more of an olive tone to their skin, and someone who tans effortlessly, he found it just gave him a natural looking boost. I tried it several times myself and equally rated it highly – I loved how it evened my skin tone like a good moisturiser should and gave me just the right amount of tint to the skin. Perfect for sunny days by the pool.
SVR Sun Secure Fluide (£14.50)
We were lucky enough to try several items from the SVR Sun Secure Fluide range while we were on holiday but the one that stood out for me was the SVR Sun Secure Fluide which is designed for the face. The whole range boasts SPF50 so it’s maximum protection and can therefore be used on your children’s faces too (winner.) It’s got a dry finish which means that after a few minutes when it’s been absorbed there was no residue and it wasn’t sticky – which is something I really rate. I can’t be doing with sticky residue from sun cream when I’m on the beach! It also has more of a matte finish than a lot of other products, and it’s water, sweat and rub resistant. I’ll be taking this range on holiday in October and using it on my kids for sure.
Australian Gold SPF50 With Bronzing Lotion (£11.99)
Now admittedly this isn’t an SPF product designed specifically for the face. However we both used it all over our bodies and on our faces at times and it did really well in our little tests so it’s one of my top facial SPF recommendations anyway! The Australian Gold SPF Range with bronzing lotion is one of my favourite sun protection products and I’ve mentioned it on my blog multiple times. For such a small price you get a huge bottle of it so it’s going to easily get you through your holidays. It offers full levels of SPF (we have the 30 and 50) and the bronzing tint it gives over the whole body is really nice – especially if you’re pale like me!
When used on the face it still gave a nice coverage, although not a matte finish, it was natural looking and emphasised the natural tan of the skin. My husband doesn’t have oily skin and this looked great on his face, and gave him full protection, lasted through swimming and didn’t streak or break apart after a few hours. It’s a great budget-friendly body and face option for your holidays.
So if you’re off on your holidays any time soon then these are my top facial SPF recommendations. While you can occasionally find a keeper of a product like the Australian Gold that works well on the body and the face, if you can afford to then I highly recommend investing in a facial SPF to get the best coverage and protection. When they’ve been designed for the face, you know a product will be working harder in the ways you want it to – covering things like anti-ageing, increasing radiance and nourishing skin in the right place and way.
Have you guys tried any of these? What are your thoughts on facial SPF? If you’re like me and tend to go for a separate SPF for your face then let me know and tell me which ones you recommend for me to try next time!
