The Brand Making BIG Eco-Friendly Moves That You’ll Want To Know About…
With such a heavy focus on encouraging a cleaner level of beauty, it’s no surprise that brands seem to be making progress at incorporating more sustainable methods into their business practices. Some are going at a slower pace than others, but credit where it’s due, if a brand is doing anything to work towards sustainability and all things eco-friendly then I’ll be there to cheer lead. Because ultimately making some progress is better than not trying, right?
And while some brands are cutting down on excess packaging (we’ve all had that delivery of a tiny item in a huge box surrounded by tonnes of plastic bubble wrap) others are applying changes across a broad range of areas. And one brand doing it better than most is REN Clean Skincare.
They want to be completely waste free by 2021.
As a skincare brand their primary concern has always previously been skin – duh. But in recent years there’s been a real shift as they have caught my eye by focusing more on clean skincare that benefits us – and also the planet. The subtle shift has been something that’s gathered momentum and now REN are a brand that I associate with both great skincare and great eco-friendly values.
Their products are designed to harness the best ingredients the planet has to offer – no toxins, harsh chemicals or irritants. Just high-performance skincare that’s cleanly derived. And I for one love their ranges – I’ve tried many products from REN and haven’t found anything that’s caused redness, dryness or irritation and I’ve recommended things from their ranges to friends and family. In fact, my husband who has very sensitive skin has loved exploring their range too as it’s not given him any flare ups at all.
On top of fab skincare, REN want to be completely waste free by 2021 and they’re aiming to achieve that by making all packaging 100% recyclable with product bottles made from reclaimed ocean plastic – which is amazing when we’re suffering such a huge plastic problem worldwide! And they’re introducing refillable solutions for their products so you won’t need to buy a whole bottle every time, thus saving on plastic use.
So if their work towards eco-friendly brand values and practices rings your bell and you’re thinking “Chloe, what should I splurge on to show my support to this brand?” then these are a few of my personal favourites…
It was my last delivery of the Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium Anti-Fatigue Body Wash and matching Body Lotion that brought the reclaimed ocena plastic packaging to my attention. The bottle proudly told me it was made from ocean plastic, which was something I’d not seen before and I really appreciated. Alongside that the sulphate-free shower-gel-type product contains Atlantic Kelp Extract which nourishes the skin so if you worry about in-shower products drying the skin out, you’re completely fine with this. You’ll feel clean, nourished and soft after each use. It also contains magnesium and anti-fatigue essential oils to wake the skin up, so it’s perfect for your morning shower session.
Another great product to try if you’re into skincare that revitalises and awakens the skin, is the Glow Daily Vitamin C Gel Cream. Which also contains magnesium and Vitamin C, which work together to re-energise the skin. Anything with Vitamin C will boost the skins natural radiance as it’s a go-to ingredient to add to your under eye area if it looks dark and you’re suffering with bags. So alongside magnesium which has well known natural bio-active properties, you’re guaranteed a fresher looking face. Used daily alongside the rest of your skincare is best.
And finally, probably my favourite REN Clean Skincare discovery this summer has to be the Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30 which I featured on my Top Facial SPF’s post recently. It’s that good. A mattifying sun cream that doesn’t make your face look oily and still delivers absolute protection from harmful sun rays is a sure-fire winner in my book. I took this on holiday with me and I loved using it – as someone with oily skin, I can’t value a matte sun cream for the face enough. It’s also silicone free and contains ingredients that act like skincare at the same time – so it soothes skin while also protects it too.
While many brands are taking steps to become more eco-friendly, REN Clean Skincare are miles above the competition in my opinion. Not only are they saying they’re going to achieve things – but they actually are. They’re not all talk, and they put their money where their mouth is and they’ve earned my respect and loyalty as a customer because of it.
While I already loved their skincare, knowing their current aims has given me more reason to rave about them and I hope you’ll agree they’re a brand worth investing in.
