It was a hugely fun event last year, one of my favourites actually. So when I was invited back to attend the Gatwick Summer Festival 2019 with my friends from World Duty Free, I jumped at the chance! Here’s everything you need to know about the summer-long event and how to get involved…
Running now and throughout the summer, if you’re off on your holidays and travelling from Gatwick airport then you have a lot to look forward to. And that’s before the holiday even starts! If you’re anything like me, the pre-holiday rush can be a tad stressful, especially if you have tiny humans in tow. So by the time the bags are checked in, you’ve got through airport security and walked into World Duty Free, that’s when you can really relax and breathe a sigh of relief that the holiday is under way. And there’s so much to enjoy before you even board the plane.
You’ll have seen me during my visit on my Instagram Stories last week enjoying the fun. And this year Gatwick have everything lined up to make the most of your travels, from in-store shopping deals, fun for the kids and food options galore – as well as some seasonal entertainment to entice you. Which means fun for all the family: the kids have fun, Dad can have a beer in peace and Mum can shop to her hearts content.
So, the shopping! There’s no better beauty paradise than World Duty Free and I have a Top Picks Post here to showcase which products I think you should be adding to your basket on your visit. There’s so much choice in-store and some great deals especially for the Summer Festival, including Lancaster Tan Maximizer for just £4.99 when you spend over £100. Which saves you over 75% and is exclusive to Gatwick Airport only – and it’s one of those products you can be guaranteed to need on your trip. There’s also a huge selection of Sunnylife inflatables which I personally find really useful – who actually has the space in their case for these?! This way you can pick yours up (at special Duty Free prices) in the airport and not have to worry about losing luggage space. Genius, right? (Yes my inflatable of choice was Freddie the Flamingo who you’ll have seen on my Stories last week taking up all the space in my Bloc Hotel bed!)
Food-wise there’s a tonne of places to enjoy eating and drinking. And make sure you’re indulging in the exclusive summer cocktails using Nicholas Culpeper Gin, which is distilled in Gatwick itself. Bet you didn’t know that the airport has it’s own Gin distillery did you? Well it does and the cocktails are delicious, I highly recommend them from personal experience! My favourite is the Blueberry, Pomegranite & Mint Gin with a dash of tonic.
And if you do have a special fondness for Gin like me, then check out the Edinburgh Gin Rhubarb & Ginger flavoured version which is a Travel Exclusive and the Watermelon & Lime version which is a World Duty Free Exclusive. These won’t be available anywhere else, so snap up a bottle (or two.)
While the kids are enjoying fun events and acts that are happening throughout the store, make sure you take a moment to submit a snap of your Summer Festival experience and post it to social media using the hashtag #LGWSummerFest and you’ll be entered into a competition to win a prize bundle worth over £1000. Which would be a fabulous treat to come home to, right?
So when you’re travelling through World Duty Free at Gatwick this summer you’re spoiled for choice on how to spend your pre-flight time. I can’t wait to go back next month when I travel through for my Honeymoon just so I can enjoy the fun and the fabulous deals all over again. Don’t forget to pick up the Summer Festival booklet for money-off coupons and details on what’s going on during your visit.
