The change in seasons can only mean one thing – time to mix up the beauty products! And seeing as summer is well on it’s way now, I welcome any opportunity to get stuck in to some new goodies and change up the products I use.
Never one to miss an opportunity to alternate my staple beauty products, the arrival of some much warmer weather recently has seen me try out some new bits in my regime. As well as this, I’ve also returned to some trusty favourites from last summer that just seem to work better when the sun is shining.
With so many products that you can enjoy more in the summer, and the opportunity to experiment with new styles and looks, it could be easy to get carried away and overspend. But fortunately Fragrance Direct have up to 70% off everything they stock – which just so happens to be, well, pretty much everything! So it’s always one of my go-to retailers for when I feel a new beauty haul coming on. (Plus they’ve just launched Klarna as a pay option if you need it.) So let’s see what made the cut and found it’s way in to my seasonal beauty switch up..
Fragrance – always one of the first things I mix up when the season changes
Ellie Saab Girl of Now was the first on my list of newness. I’ve been wanting to try it for a while since experimenting with their original scent at Christmas. Girl of Now is a great scent for summer because it’s a bit different from the usual fragrances around. It’s a gorgeous musky scent that sits perfectly on the skin – there’s something seductive about it thanks to it’s almond and patchouli notes. It’s got that perfect skin-clinging scent that I love in the summer and it’s perfect when strolling along the beach. But it’s also got a really fruity edge thanks to it’s Orange Blossom notes too, so you’ve still got that fruity edge that is perfect for trademark summer scents. Plus it’s got a saving of nearly £10 on the 50ml bottle, which is too good to miss.
Tan Time – embracing the sun means prepping first with a great tanning product
As someone who is seriously pale, I always try to start my summer with a tan – albeit a fake one! A pre-tan product to get me started is essential to me, as it’s how I stop myself looking too washed out when everyone else has a bronze glow. The Elemis Total Glow Bronzing Body Lotion is a great way to introduce a subtle hint of colour to my skin – while also nourishing it too.
It’s a daily gradual tan that’s applied after your morning shower. It goes on really nicely and gives a good level of moisture that lasts all day. The tan develops throughout, gradually getting darker over the hours but for the first few days it’s very subtle so you don’t need to worry about streaks. For me this is the easiest way to build a natural looking tan without going in at the deep end and ruining the seasonal look with an instant tan that’s too dark.
Hair TLC – repair and nurture ready for summer
I like to change my hair products regularly and I love the selection available at Fragrance Direct. I picked the Sexy Hair Blonde Shampoo Set which is the perfect purple shampoo and conditioner if you have blonde or coloured hair. It’s rare that I find a purple shampoo duo that doesn’t have a bit of a worryingly chemical scent, but the Sexy Hair Range has honey and chamomile in it and it smells divine, plus it nourishes without drying my locks too. A 300ml duo for only £15.95 – this will keep me topped up for quite a while and ensure that pool, sea water etc doesn’t make my blonde look brassy.
As well as this, I also picked up the L’Oreal Elvive Coconut Oil Mask (an absolute bargain at only £4.99) to help give my hair some serious TLC. I’m working hard on repairing my hair due to over colouring and I don’t think you can ever have too many intensive masks, so this has been a nice way to bump up the hair repair as a quick pre-shampoo while washing.
Tools – the beauty tricks of the trade
I’m a sucker for new make up brushes, mostly because I use mine so heavily that sometimes no matter how much I wash them, they stain and I just don’t feel comfortable using make up brushes that don’t look clean – even when they are. So I had a massive declutter of my brushes recently and the Real Techniques Flawless Base Set made it’s way in to my collection instead – ready for the summer. A great set for base products like foundation, blush and contour, it’s pretty nifty for taking abroad too. If there’s ever a great time to invest in new brushes and tools, it’s now.
Pamper Time – a.k.a the best time, no matter what the season
I love the Garnier Skin Active Moisture Bomb Masks, their charcoal version is one I’ve repurchased time and time again. Despite this I’d never seen the complete collection as a set before, until I saw it at Fragrance Direct. Five masks for less than £10… I snapped it up quicker than you can blink! Containing my trusty favourite charcoal version and the best-selling moisture infused version, there’s something for everyone here. Plus sheet masks make skincare pampering so easy with little mess and it’s a great way of giving skin some TLC. Sundays are my perfect skincare pamper time and I’ll be rebuying this set for sure as I’ve used nearly all of them already!
Make me over – new make up time!
As a premium beauty lover, I adore shopping all the bargains at Fragrance Direct, but this time I was drawn to quite a few of their budget beauty buys. They had some of the more limited edition collections available that have been hard to find, as well as some of the things that just haven’t made their way into my collection yet. I picked up the Maybelline Countdown Palette which I think was a Christmas launch, but it’s got the perfect mix of shades for some sizzling summer eye looks. It’s only £5.99 and it will be great in my handbag during my various work events when I want to touch up my eyes. There’s lots of bronze tones with a shimmer finish to create sunset looking eye looks.
They also stock the L’Oreal Infalliable Merry Metals range which was a collection I raved about last year but was limited edition so wasn’t around for long. I stocked up on the Eyeshadow Paint because it has such a gorgeous metallic finish that rivals some of my premium brands in payoff and also the matching metallic lipstick in shade Pixi – which I’d not been able to find anywhere last year! See what I mean, shopping at Fragrance Direct is like a treasure trove of delights for make up lovers!
Like I said, shopping for a new season shouldn’t break the bank and while there are some things I’ll happily splurge on (skincare and perfume) sometimes I like to buy the budget brands to balance things out. After all they’ve upped their game so much these days! A seasonal beauty switch out should be fun and get you in the mood for things like your holidays. Which is why I highly recommend checking out the Fragrance Direct range to stock up on all your beauty needs.
