No longer are superfoods just something you throw in a smoothie, or pick from a brunch menu. Now Elemis have a whole collection dedicated to nourishing your skin with healthy goodness. And it’s fully worth the investment.
Sometimes skincare brands surprise me. As someone who’s worked in the beauty world for years now, this happens less and less. Not for any type of negative reason, just because there’s very little that’s truly new these days. But once in a while something gets released and it surprises and excites me in one. The most recent skincare launch to do this, was the Elemis Superfoods range.
I’m quite a big fan of Elemis products anyway. There’s something about the more ‘spa brands’ that gives me a luxurious vibe in both use and packaging. And Elemis have this amazing type of scent to their products that’s so unique, it’s aromatherapy-like and so relaxing. So, I started using the Superfoods range prior to my wedding. Initially I was wary of trying too much skincare in the few months before my Big Day because no-one wants a new-skincare breakout do they? But I knew I’d be able to trust Elemis, so I gradually cracked into my Superfoods Stash.
The collection is designed on the same ‘superfoods’ principle as the type you eat – it’s designed to nourish thoroughly and healthily, and the products are formulated from plant-based, nutrient-dense Superfoods. I loved the notion that I could nourish my skin with healthy skincare, and spring seemed like the perfect time to try it out.
The new 8-piece collection contains everything needed to encourage a healthy glow for the months ahead. Using prebiotic principles (yes that’s the skin version of the food probiotics) it works to clean, hydrate and nourish skin to deliver an all over radiant glow.
Superfood Facial Wash
The product I’ve used the most in the range, every single day in fact, is the Facial Wash. I’m all for the double cleanse in the evenings, but for me, I prefer something I can use in the shower to deliver my morning skincare. And a great facial wash is perfect for this – but notoriously hard to find from premium brands. This one though has been beautiful to use and really awakening first thing too. Containing Avocado, Broccoli and Pumpkin Seed oils, it works to revive my skin, clean it for the day ahead and just give me a nice all over base to start the day with. It’s thorough and gentle too, so I think even the most sensitive of skin types would be able to enjoy it.
Superfood Day Cream
Another favourite in the range is the Superfood Day Cream, which works for me like a moisturiser, Day Cream and day serum all in one. It’s so luxuriously hydrating on my skin and the perfect cream for post-shower skin that only needs a little something as a pick-me-up all day long. I don’t usually like day creams or moisturisers that really give a glow to the skin, because as someone with oily skin this isn’t ideal. But this actually created the most lovely and subtle glow that lasted all day and just kept me looking healthy throughout. It’s also been key at combating the dry patches I’ve been getting around my mouth too.
Superfood Night Cream
Containing Barley, Quinoa and Sweet Almond Milk which works to nourish at a deeper level, the Superfood Night Cream is a refreshing change from the normal night-time products which are always all about anti-ageing. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s nice to find an overnight product that isn’t only about ageing. This one instead, works to replenish skin of what it loses throughout the day, so you should wake with softer, fresher looking skin. Plus it’s also got a really relaxing scent which comes from the Lavendar and Ylang Ylang which means I find it really peaceful as I go to bed.
Superfood Blackcurrant Jelly Exfoliator
When it comes to face mask time, it’s always really key to start with some sort of exfoliator like the Superfood Blackcurrant Jelly Exfoliator. This is because you want something that removes all dirt, debris and make up properly, and really cleans the pores. And it’s going to come from products like this with a thick texture. Rubbed gently all over, it works to lift all the nasties away and to then reveal the new and fresh layer of skin just underneath. And it’s this new skin that gives you the radiant look you want for a glowing complexion. Plus it smells super yummy too – just refrain from actually eating it!
Superfood Berry Boost Mask
After having exfoliated thoroughly, when you’re having a serious pamper session a great face mask is essential and there’s two in the Superfood range to pick from. The first is the Berry Boost Mask which is a great follow-on from the Exfoliator. As someone with oily skin, a mask like this is ideal because it contains Brazilian Purple Clay – and anything with clay is great for detoxifying and mattifying. To combat the mattifying effect which can sometimes feel a little drying, it also nourishes and hydrates with Omega-rich SuperBerry Complex. So if you’re oily, in need of a T-zone fix or looking to multi-mask then this is a great one to try.
Superfood Vital Veggie Mask
If you’re looking for something else in the face mask stakes then the Superfood Vital Veggie Mask is the second mask in the collection. This one is inspired by a smoothie and the ultra-healthy hit of nourishment that it offers. Containing the wonder ingredient of Vitamin C which brightens and awakens, it’s great for dull or tired looking skin because it just perks it back to life. It’s great after a night out, or stressful day at work and it’s also good for hydration levels and brightness. It’s a great all rounder for lots of different skin types.
Superfood Facial Oil
If you like to use oils in your skincare regime, there’s one in the Superfoods collection that you may just fall in love with. This plumping and nourishing daily oil contains omega-rich Broccoli which is a healthly kick and a half for the skin, and it’s really well absorbed too – without any hint of greasy residue. A good facial oil will hydrate and nourish the skin at a deeper level as it absorbs deeply into the epidermis, so this is fabulous if you’re older or looking for something more potent in your skincare.
Superfood Kefir-Tea Mist
If you’re looking for something that gives skincare level qualities but used over the top of make up then the Superfood Kefir-Tea Mist is a great product and I’m calling it…it’s going to be a summer essential. Not only is any type of facial mist refreshing and hydrating, but this one works to balance the skin using it’s organic Aloe Vera and Coconut Water, which nourish to leave a subtle glow. Also infused with anti-oxidant rich Rooibos Tea extract, this magic mist holds make up securely in place while nourishing too – so it’s a little bit of everything in one. I can imagine this being the sort of product you reach for constantly on holiday.
Considering there’s such a huge range of products, I feel like everything slots easily into existing regimes and compliments the products you already have. I use the Facial Wash and the Day Cream religiously and the Masks and Exfoliator weekly – that’s how simple it was to implement superfood principles into my skincare. And the Mist will be coming on holiday with me too.
When it comes to skincare, I like brands that perform and I can always count on Elemis to deliver. Ultimately if they’re good enough for the top spas and salons then you know they’re good enough for home skincare too. I’m so impressed with these products and the principles behind them – I like to think of them of my skincare smoothies. Getting healthy never looked better.
