Each change in season gives us the perfect opportunity to switch up our skincare and focus on the changing needs of our skin. No two seasons offer the same conditions: changing heat, pollution levels, UV exposure and sunlight can have a big impact on your skin. So it’s important to prepare yours so you can get the best out of it with great spring skincare.
When it comes to spring, we’ve spent months indoors, surrounded by central heating and ‘faux’ air. We’ve snuggled away in chunky knitwear, wrapped up tight when we do go outside and the last time we felt warmth from the sun felt like an absolute lifetime ago. So the sudden arrival of temperatures warm enough to ditch the jackets and actual sunshine is quite often a very welcome change. But it can throw your skin off a bit as it struggles to adapt to the change.
I know first hand how difficult it can be for skin to cope in these times.
I’ve always written about the need to look after your skin during the seasonal change times because it’s always affected me so much. I get breakouts, my skin doesn’t know if it’s oily or dry and my freckles emerge from their winter siesta with a vengeance. So, I like to think I can recommend some great solutions to the problems we face when winter melts away and turns into spring.
It’s not always a case of completely switching out your regime – unless you want to of course. But it may be that for you it’s about trying something new, or covering an extra base you don’t usually think of. So, here the definitive guide to help you get the best out of your skin this spring.C
Everyday additions regardless of skin concern
Dermalogica Prisma Protect
I couldn’t think of a better product to introduce into your spring switch-up than the Dermalogica Prisma Protect. At first I wasn’t sure what this actually did, as it sounded so fancy, but I did some reading and started using it and…well…it’s a flipping useful product for your skincare regime. Basically it’s a moisturiser that’s perfect for this time of year – it’s got this really cool technology that can sense light and works to boost natural luminosity in that time while also working really hard to protect against UV rays. Containing SPF 30, it’s your new daily moisturiser for fighting the way the sun can damage your skin, and while it’s doing that it’s also working to balance your skin tone at the same time. So no matter what your skin concern this UV fighting moisturiser is going to flatter your skin and protect it at the same time. The Dermalogica Prisma Protect is a spring skin winner in my book.
SVR HYDRACID C50 Masque Eclat
This foam mask in an aerosol-type container is something I’m seeing more of in the face mask stakes – and I’m loving it. The SVR Hydracid c50 Masque Eclait is a nifty pick-me-up for skin that’s primarily designed to boost radiance levels. So it’s great post-winter when skin needs some help getting life back into it. Containing Vitamin C, it’s perfect for perking your face up, as Vit C is proven to generate vitality in the skin and it’s something I often turn to in my skincare when I’m looking dull and tired. Plus it’s great under the eyes FYI.
As well as being great for boosting radiance, this clever foam masque also works as a micro-peeling treatment so it’s going to thoroughly remove all the dirt and debris on the top layer of skin for a really fresh and clean feeling face. It’s basically a fabulous spring-skin preparation.
Great For Dry or Dehydrated Skin
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream
There’s no more cult facial cream than the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream, right? It works to hydrate skin for up to 24 hours of mositure and it balances the hydration levels with over double the normal moisture. So basically when you wear it, your skin feels hydrated for longer – which is perfect if you have dry or dehydrated skin.
Unlike moisture intensive creams, it’s non-greasy and absorbs very quickly into the skin, so it’s a great product for picking up and just getting on with your day. It’s fragrance free as well, and gentle on even the most sensitive skin so it’s one we always have at home. (My husband uses it daily.) It’s one of those products you’ll never look back from.
SVR Physiopure Range
A range I recently heard about that’s really impressed me is the SVR Physiopure Range. Which is 100% paraben free, hypoallergenic, alcohol and soap free as well as tested on the most sensitive skin. It’s basically THE range for those people who struggle with finding skincare that doesn’t agitate them. So if redness, and sensitivity are a problem in your skincare, this is the range for you.
Removing make up and cleansing are the first steps to any good regime and it should be something that’s as ‘clean’ as possible. You don’t want tonnes of ingredients interfering at this stage if you move to treatments and serums later. So this range offers different cleansers, all with simple solutions and ingredients to remove make up and dirt (even waterproof make up) without leaving a tightening sensation. The Micellar Water and the Cleansing Foaming Gel are my best recommendations.
Daily Intensive Boost For Tired Skin
Time Bomb Vitamin Solution
If you want a heavy and intensive hit of vitamins and nourishment to rescue skin post-winter, then the Time Bomb Vitamin Solution is perfect for a pick-me-up. Applied once a day this serum-type product will reintroduce the vitamins your skin may be lacking. There’s Vitamins A, B and C within it, which together are great for anti-ageing as well as tired, dull looking skin.
Using a serum is something I recommend anyway because it’s one sure-fire way of getting heavy duty skincare solutions into your regime without the need for time heavy treatments. Plus something like this Vitamin Solution can offer a concentrated dose of ingredients to brighten skin within a really short space of time.
Time Bomb Flashback Night Cream
If you’re looking for something that’s going to offer targeted skincare, then an overnight treatment may also be of interest. I’ve written recently about the reasons I love overnight treatments, but suffice to say that it’s perfect if you live a busy, active life. Skincare that works overnight requires no extra time than the application and it works while you sleep, so it’s utilizing time you already have anyway.
The Time Bomb Flashback Night Cream is great for plumping the skin so it looks well-rested by morning, with a baby skin texture. Plus if you like a dewy-look to your beauty regime this is going to achieve it for you. It’s great for getting ready for those spring make up looks with lots of glow. Designed for anti-ageing but fabulous for anyone looking for dewy-nourished skin.
Essentials For Oily Skin
Bioderma Shine Control Moisturiser
If like me you have really oily skin, then you’ll likely be used to trying every product possible to combat it. Containing the way excess oil looks and feels on the skin is really important, especially if you wear make up because it really affects the way it looks. Basically if you have oily skin it’s a nightmare getting make up to stay in place. So key products underneath your foundation can make all the difference.
A great spring step in your skincare would be the Bioderma Shine Control Moisturiser which goes on first, before make up and works to mattify skin all day. It’s soft and gentle to use, and absorbs quickly creating a matte effect that’s great as a primer. It also keep skin hydrated well too.
Boscia Luminizing Black Mask
I’ve been trying Boscia products for a while now and so far I’m really impressed. Their masks especially are doing all sorts for helping me cope better with my oily skin, and the Luminizing Black Mask has been novelty too! As a peel-off mask it’s got that satisfaction level when you remove it from the skin (please tell me I’m not the only one who feels like that?!)
But more than just being a bit cool, it’s actually quite nifty – I’ve never used a charcoal peel off mask before. Charcoal being the go-to ingredient in face masks for those of us with oily skin because it works to combat excess sebum and oil. It absorbs it and leaves skin dry, clean and oil-free. It’s fab for a weekly pamper in spring.
Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding
Another great mask to try from Boscia is the Charcoal Pore Pudding which also looks super satisfying – but don’t eat it! It’s a mixture of black and white charcoal – the black works to remove excess oil and dirt while the white works to hydrate and brighten at the same time. So it’s like two masks in one. Which is great for when you want perking up after the long winter, cold months.
If you like to combat your oily skin with regular face masks then this once or twice a week for 15 minutes a pop will really help to contain the way your skin looks.
So there you have it – my definitive guide to help you get the best out of your skin this spring, regardless of what your skin concern is. I’m hoping you’ve found some fab new products to try this season, let me know which you’ve got your eye on!
