One thing that I love about my job is getting to try new things. In a saturated beauty world there’s so much of the same, just packaged differently. But as someone who has a real interest in skincare I welcome the opportunity to explore new products, especially when they’re a bit different to everything else. It’s nice to find brands who do things differently, break the mold and redefine what beauty means to them.
A few weeks ago I started trialing a range of products from Bee Good, a British beauty brand who are doing skincare differently and I was really excited to see how things went with their natural honey skincare. As far as British brands go, I love to try them. There’s some hidden gems in that sector and I recommend trying them out more. Bee Good have harnessed natural beeswax and honey and created a whole range of luxury products that are not only bee-friendly but organic too because they’re completely free from parabens and silicones. They only harvest honey and beeswax in a way that doesn’t damage the bees, so the line is also suitable for vegetarians as well. And speaking of the little bees, Bee Good work to support small businesses by sourcing their ingredients from UK suppliers, which is always good to know. After being founded in a rural kitchen, the brand has grown to national success and I was keen to see how natural honey skincare would work for me.
There’s pretty much something for all parts of your skincare regime in the range. There’s a cleanser, moisturiser, serum and a mask – as well as many more. So I thought it would be a great chance to mix things up in my current skincare regime. Honey in skincare at it’s purest form is incredibly moisturising and cleansing. Because of the way honey binds water it’s therefore great at encouraging the skin to retain it, which in turn keeps skin hydrated, softer and slows down the signs of ageing. It’s also a natural antibacterial so great for blemishes etc. Bet you never knew that did you?! With the knowledge that this organic range was founded on such properties gave me high hopes for my trial.
As with any good skincare regime, I started with the basics, the Honey & Propolis 2-in-1 Cream Cleanser. It’s designed to remove dirt, make up and gently exfoliate too and it only costs £11.50 for 100ml and comes with an accompanying muslin cloth. I used this every night and it was the first step in my nightly routine. I’d apply a small amount and rub in circular motions around the face and it felt so satisfying to see all my make up and dirt etc just come away. You then take a damp muslin cloth (make sure it’s warm) and wipe away. It takes off all the traces of everything you’ve rubbed to loosen and it left my skin feeling really lovely and soft – as well as very clean. I’m cautious with cleansers as some textures can be quite drying but I found this one didn’t leave any sense of skin tightness at all, which is lovely as one I’d been using before was good, but always left my face feeling tight, which I hated. So for a daily cleanser it’s done it’s job and worked nicely to remove everything as well as prep my skin each day for the next step in my regime.
After thoroughly cleansing, the next product I tried was the Youth Enhancing Hydrate, Smooth & Prime Serum which I have really loved using. A good serum has become a staple in my skincare regime, especially in the past year or two as I’ve begun to notice fine lines creeping their way in. Serums seem to be able to deliver a heavy duty hit of targeted skincare in a way that a lot of other parts of skincare regimes can’t. The Youth Enhancing Prime Serum has been a nice addition to my routine and I found that it was really gentle on the skin, so I think it would work well for even those with sensitive skin too. Designed to target mature skin, I’m only just showing signs of ageing but after almost two weeks of using this I did notice an all-over softness to the areas where I do have lines, even normal forehead lines were softened and less deep looking.
Moving on to the Youth Enhancing Plump & Firm Moisturiser, this Travel Size is 15ml and has lasted me daily use for almost two weeks, which is pretty good value considering it’s only £4. It’s a great typical moisturiser that has contributed to that all over softness I’ve noticed across my face, as I noticed within a few days skin looked less dry and thirsty. When I’m using a good moisturiser my skin just looks a bit happier all-round and I noticed less break-outs once my skin got used to this. A small amount goes a long way too.
My under eye area is currently my biggest problem-area at the moment. It’s always the place we show the signs of ageing first as the skin is so delicate there that the lines appear more noticeable. And I’ve seen this first hand in the past 12 months! Plus, running around after a toddler and running a business means I get quite tired due to my active lifestyle and as a result I get dark under eye bags. I’ve been trying to find my perfect combination of eye skincare to combat this, so I always welcome trying new things. The Bee Good Youth Enhancing Lift & Brighten Eye Cream was my newest trial and along with the other products in the range I noticed that skin felt softer to the touch after a couple of weeks. My biggest observation using this is that those dark eye bags looked a lot lighter in appearance, and my eyes just looked a bit more awake. I’ve still got the fine lines, sadly nothing short of surgery will remove them, but the depth of my bags was improved so overall I felt better about the area as a whole.
But by far my favourite product of the range was the NectaPerfecta Beautifying Mask. As you know I’m a face mask addict and use them almost every day. It’s how I can mix up my skincare depending on how my skin looks each day. The NectaPerfecta Beautifying Mask looked so perfect when it arrived that I almost didn’t want to use it, but I was so glad I did because it’s like a wonder mask that can be used for so many different things. Used weekly as a 5-10 minute mask you’ll notice that skin is uber soft after use and smooth too. I noticed that my cheeks looked a bit plumper and brighter after using this and it smells so lovely too. But as well as being a normal face mask, I’ve also used it as a scalp/hair mask too. 10 minutes on before normal hair washing and my hair and head feels lovely too, it’s like a deep clean for the roots and scalp.
Having spent the last few weeks trying out these products and seeing how natural honey skincare works I’m pleased to report it’s been a nice trial with pleasing results. My skin overall feels softer and looks a bit healthier and I noticed that after a small breakout the first few days (which is normal while skin adjusts to new skincare) my skin was actually a lot clearer than previous weeks, so in that sense I’m really pleased! Especially with my wedding now so close!
If you’re looking for an organic, gentle anti-ageing routine that’s not abrasive or intensive but gentle enough for everyday then I think the natural honey skincare from Bee Good is a great place to look.
