When I first got into beauty my Mum instilled in me the importance of good skincare. I was so lucky that she did because as a result, from my first memories of wearing make up, I also have memories of taking it off properly and looking after myself. I’m not saying I never went to bed without taking make up off at the end of the day – we’ve all been 18, had way too many cocktails and flopped on the bed asleep before our heads touch the pillow. But other than the odd occasion, I always knew to properly remove make up and at the very least cleanse my skin. My Mum would always buy me the Clarins Cleanser and Toner for my birthday and at Christmas, so I always knew the effects of good quality skincare.
Having that early skincare education didn’t mean I didn’t have slip ups. I had, and still do suffer with breakouts and would buy and try every teenage spot treatment going. With very little effectiveness. I used more make up wipes than I care to admit now I know how bad they are for the skin and for the environment, and I went through phases of thinking a cleanser a day was enough. Thank goodness I’ve learned through those moments! Despite the slip ups over the years, my early knowledge about the importance of looking after your skin has meant that now I’m an adult, I am thoroughly invested in doing all I can for my skin. And I still view Clarins as one of those top premium brands, and almost like the favourite aunt in the family – the one you love seeing and spending time with. The one you have a fondness for.
My Mum introduced me to Clarins because she used and trusted it. So I used the same products as her despite her being 20 years older than me and us having completely different skin concerns. But now Clarins have launched their My Clarins range, specifically for the 18-29 year old and I am so happy that now a younger generation have their own range from Clarins to enjoy. And it’s available from World Duty Free too.
My Clarins is a complete 9 piece collection of everyday products for us millenials. Comprised of everything you need for a complete skincare regime, the range features products with up to 88% natural ingredients. There’s no parabens, no sulfates, it’s ethically friendly, plant based, vegan friendly and there’s no animal testing. It seems one of the big brands has finally heard what we’re crying out for in our skincare – and produced a whole lined designed specifically for us. And as a skincare junkie it feels amazing. The concept behind the creation is that the products are like individual recipes for your skin. So it encourages a healthy and balanced skin-diet. Pretty cool, huh?
With a whole range to try, there’s some key stand-out products for me. The first has to be the Re-Move Micellar Cleansing Milk. Having used the Clarins Cleanser for years, I made a bee-line for this and it’s a more creamy, liquid version of the original. I use this morning and evening after removing my make up and just wipe around the face with a cotton pad. It soaks the skin without making it feel wet (always a bonus) and hydrates too. It’s gentle on the skin so even those who are sensitive will be able to use it and it’s just a really nice, easy and everyday way to cleanse.
I also love the Re-Charge Relaxing Sleep Mask. I adore night time skincare and sleeping masks because it feels like I’m having the last laugh with my skincare. I get to help my skin while I sleep – how nifty. And this mask is great for the dehydrated skin types because it’s like a massive dose of moisture that sinks in while you snooze. The added hydrated moisturises skin and brightens it as a result, so you wake up looking and feeling fresh. I’ve used this a few times and have been really impressed with how gentle it is on the skin and how soft my face feels in the morning.
A big winner in the range for me was the Re-Boost Matifying Hydrating Cream. How can a hydrating cream (moisturiser) also be matifying? Well this one can and it’s become my perfect morning skincare product. As someone with oily skin, this product was made for me (or so it feels) because it keeps things hydrated but also reduces shine and keeps the oil at bay. A good daily moisturiser is essential for all skincare regimes and if you have oily skin you’ll want one like this, that combats the shine we suffer from. I’m a big fan of this and will 100% be rebuying this one. (If you don’t have oily skin then try the Re-Boost Comforting Hydrating Cream instead.)
The Pore-Less Blur & Matte Stick is a nifty little thing which I haven’t seen in a Clarins range before and my oily skin got very excited. Lots of brands are creating stick primers to blur and combat shine, but how cool that Clarins have created one to slot into your skincare as well as your make up routine? This can be applied after moisturiser as that primer you want underneath foundation to blur pores and imperfections. It actually soaks up the oil and shine, so you look matte for longer, and it can be used over make up to soak things up too. It’s a multi-purpose essential for us oily skin peeps. I’m a huge fan.
If you’re a fan of a mist whether in your skincare or make up routine then you’ll want to try the Re-Fresh Hydrating Beauty Mist. Used as part of your normal skincare, it will prepare skin to be at it’s optimum absorbancy for the following products in your regime. It’s basically a skincare primer, which is quite cool. So you just spray after cleansing and before serums and moisturisers and they’ll work to the best of their ability. Or use over make up if you get dehydrated or need a skin pick-me-up. It will give you the dose of moisture you need to perk the skin up again. And speaking of extra hydration, there’s also the Re-Boost Refreshing Hydrating Cream. This one will be good for those younger ladies looking for their first moisturiser. It’s a great all-rounder that fights free-radicals, build up, dirt and pollution effects on the skin. It hydrates, encourages skin to look radiant and glow, and keeps the skin energised all day long.
If you’re looking for something to remove your make up with and act as your very first step in skincare, then the Re-Move Purifying Cleansing Gel will do the trick perfectly. Removing make up, even mascara, as it lathers on contact with water, this little beauty purifies skin to fight oil and limit shine while also diminishing the appearance of pores. This one is next on my ‘to-try’ list.
And finally is the Clear-Out Gel which is your targeted treatment for breakouts. Add a dab of this to spots and it will dry them out enough to face the day. It can be applied morning, evening and any time in between as an on-the-go product that will work when you need it. It’s not uncomfortable to use and anyone who suffers with breakouts will know the importance of having something in your bag to fight the way they look and feel. This will do the trick perfectly.
So there we have it – a whole new generation of Clarins for us millenials. I really do love those stand-out products and I’m only gutted they didn’t have this sooner as I can guarantee I’d have started my skincare evolution with My Clarins years back. All of these products are available from World Duty Free, so pick some up on your travels.
