I can’t believe I’m typing up this post – the end of the month piece for the first month of the new year…where is the time going? We’re already 1/12th of the way into a whole new year…it’s scary! But then equally Christmas does seem like ages ago so I guess it shouldn’t be that scary… Anyway, January has had some surprises in store, most noticeably in the form of how many amazing new products have landed on my doormat. Usually a very quiet period in the beauty world, I’ve actually been busy. And probably had the busiest January on record (in blog terms anyway!) Which isn’t a bad problem to have as it’s meant it’s kept those January blues away. So considering I’ve got lots to showcase, let’s get straight in to whats been new this month and what’s been a favourite of mine…
Noughty Thirst Aid Spray
The guys at Noughty Hair Care released their Thirst Aid Spray this month which was very exciting because they sent over a huge box of goodies and some seriously snazzy biscuits to match. The new Thirst Aid Spray is a lightweight spray that’s designed to add moisture to the hair thanks to its shea butter fusion, which should help get rid of tangles. As well as this it’s supposed to conditioning the ends of the hair to help combat split ends. Sounds like a winner right? I don’t have a problem with dry hair…until you reach the ends where too much bleach and over styling has really dried them out, and for some reason I struggle with tangles more than ever in the past few years so I’m really looking forward to using this regularly. When I was having a read of the ingredients I was pleasantly surprised to find this was all natural and contains Argan Oil – the hair care wonder ingredient. All for just £6.99, winner.
Elf+ Matte Oil Control Primer
I’ve loved using this over the past few weeks. As someone with oily skin, anything that works to keep my face looking matte and keep the oil at bay is worth a shot. In fact if it says ‘matte’ I’ll usually buy it and hope for the best. Oily-skin girl life right there. Trying this Elf+ Matte Oil Control Primer I noticed how well it smoothed skin before I put foundation on and it seemed to diminish the way my pores looked too. Kind of like it was filling them in a little bit. It’s light on the skin, which is ideal because no-one wants their make up/face to feel heavy but it does a good job in prepping for foundation and complexion products. It’s ‘clay-infused’ and I think it’s a great dupe for my everyday matte primer which costs double the price. So it’s getting the seal of approval as one of this month’s Favourites.
Super Facialist Rose Hydrate Facial Scrub
I’ve used products from Super Facialist before and things like the Rose Hydrate Facial Scrub are really easy to slot into your skincare regime because you can use them in the shower or as part of your morning/evening clean. Designed to brighten the skin, it’s essentially a facial exfoliator which means it buffs away dead skin cells, dirt etc. I use mine in the shower in the mornings as my facial wash at the moment and I’ve found that my skin feels really clean after each use. One thing I noticed is that unlike a lot of other facial scrubs I’ve used, this one doesn’t leave my skin red or sore after use, it’s gentle and buffs away everything in a delicate way, so I think even sensitive skin types would be able to use this. Plus it’s another great buy at only £8.99.
Rita Hazan True Colour Hair Products
When it comes to my hair I know what I like and what I don’t. As someone who has dyed their hair every colour under the sun during her adult life, I’ve always ended up going back to a blonde tone or two. I’ve settled on ash tones but with so much colouring, the ash in the blonde goes warm and golden after a while – which drives me nuts! I was kindly sent over some of the Rita Hazan True Colour products recently and it’s been a really great brand to get to grips with. Hazan herself is a stylist based in New York and she’s created products to work for all types of hair. I’ve got the True Colour Shampoo & Conditioner which works for coloured hair and stop the colour stripping. I’m waiting to try these as I’m just about to finish my current duo – but one product I’ve already tried and loved is the Rita Hazan Ultimate Shine Gloss which is like an extra step in your hair washing process. Used in between your shampoo and conditioner, you apply all over and it reignites your colour and combats the brass. For me, I’ve found this keeps my ash blonde tones cool and bright, and they’re definitely not dulling down in colour since I started using this. I’m always wary of treatments and masks as my hair is so fine but this hasn’t weighed it down and I’m noticing the brightness and spark in my colour is staying around. Definitely worth a splurge if you struggle to maintain blonde tones without them going dull or brassy.
MOR Bohemienne Hand & Body Wash
Another favourite this month is the MOR Bohemienne Hand & Body Wash which is a whopping 500ml for only £17! Another product I’ve been using in the shower, this Hand & Body Wash smells absolutely divine! I’m a sucker for berry scents anyway but they can sometimes be a little bit too sweet first thing in the morning, but this strawberry scented wash also has Chamomile and White Jasmine in it so it’s relaxing and gentle, but with the perfect musky element to it. It’s like fruity and musky all in one and I love it! It’s rich and luxurious with a deep scent payoff that sticks to the skin for hours afterwards which means you feel clean, fresh and smell pretty too. I’ve become a big fan of the MOR products in recent months, and this has just added to my love for their lovely scents.
Le Couvent des Minimes Candle
New in this month was the Le Couvent des Minimes Candle in Louis Feuillée. As a scented candle addict I’m always adding to my collection and this candle has been a welcome addition. It’s got this wonderful aroma, like perfume that lingers as you walk past and it’s gentle with a soft edge like baby powder. It’s just really feminine and lovely. Blended with essential oils, it’s relaxing and soft and the perfect candle to have on during those pamper evenings when you want to relax.
The big beauty news this month was that Milk Makeup are finally coming to the UK! After what seems like forever, the brand have finally recognised that us Brit beauty lovers want their products and they’re launching with Cult Beauty. I was kindly sent some of the products ahead of the launch and it’s done nothing but make me more excited to get my hands on the range. The Kush Mascara is lovely and really nice on the lashes, it rivals mascaras that I’ve always sworn by (like Too Faced’s Better Than Sex) and I’ll be repurchasing the full size because it adds lift and length without clumping. The Blur stick is also one to look out for.
Mii Cosmetics Velvet Radiance Face Base
A new foundation to land on my doorstep was the Mii Cosmetics Velvet Radiance Face Base. Designed to blur imperfections and add a velvet layer to the skin, this face base will be great for those who like medium coverage foundation. It’s also a dewy-lovers dream as the velvet-type finish gives skin a subtle radiance and it should work well going into the spring months with a cute pink cheek. I’d recommend this foundation to those who don’t like going for full coverage but still want to feel like they’ve got a nice level of colour from their foundation.
NYK1 Tan Force
It’s getting to the time of year where I start to think about fake tan. As spring approaches I tend to tan a bit more after embracing my inner pale during winter. But as we ditch the coats and show more skin it’s always nice to have a natural glow and bronze, isn’t it? New in recently was the NYK1 Tan Force which is top of my spring-to-try list because it’s an award winning tan that’s supposed to dry in 10 minutes which is perfect for busy mums like me. It’s also a mousse which has long-time been one of my favourite tan textures because you can actually see where you’re applying it – which means you limit white spots and missed bits. But for me the biggest appeal about trying this tan in spring will be the fact it’s supposed to be aroma free – the sole reason I don’t tan more these days is the smell – I hate it. So I’m really hoping this one will meet it’s claim of being aroma free – I’ll report back soon!
So those are my January Favourites & New In Beauty Treats! What do you guys think? Any stand out products you’ll be trying soon?
