When it comes to make up, I’m an addict and I’ve come to accept this and embrace it. I used to get mocked for it, but I laughed back and turned my passion into a career, and I’ve never been happier. As a result of how much I love trying new make up, changing up my every day products and generally following new trends, I now get to try new releases, work out new styles for myself and speak to my own audience about all things beauty as my job. How fortunate am I?! And there’s not a day goes past that I don’t appreciate it and love it that little bit more.
And this time of year is my favourite: all the beauty gift sets, the limited edition collections and the sheer amount of fun in the beauty world makes it a great time to be a blogger. But I also love Christmas as a beauty lover for another reason, and that’s because it gives me the time for a complete make up refresh. With the amount of new products and sets, the festive season means that you can completely overhaul your collection. You can start again, replace the old with the new, or even just try out some new make up styles for the upcoming year. Whatever it is you choose to do with your make up collection, Christmas is the perfect time for a refresh.
When Black Friday kicked in, my interest started to lean seriously closer to Bobbi Brown. I picked up some of their products in the sale (which gave a whopping 20% off everything and a free full size mascara with every order) and added them to my small but much loved BB collection. In previous months I’d tried their eyeshadow palettes and also some of their lipsticks. I’d also had a beauty session thanks to John Lewis where they used a lot of the Bobbi Brown products, so altogether my love for the brand was growing rapidly. But when I started looking at their offerings and Christmas sets, I realised that this Christmas was my time to invest in more from them.
You could say I do things backwards – I buy the new products in my overhaul, before I throw out or give away the older bits I don’t use anymore. I do this so I know what has enticed me the most and it’s a prompt on what to declutter first. The first thing I purchased was the Luxe on Luxe Mini Lip Collection. Which was the product I purchased in the Black Friday sale. I’ve never purchased a full lipstick collection for myself before but having tried some of the Bobbi Brown lipsticks for my World Duty Free tutorial, I fell in love with the formula. And I knew one section of my make up collection I’d be completely overhauling was my lip products. I have so many I no longer need, want or use, so a nice new collection of these mini lipsticks means I had even more excuse to be brutal and replace them.
The set contains ten of the Luxe Lip Colours which are the rich payoff lipsticks. These ones have a bold pigment that sticks to the lips and gives intense colour. I love the texture because it’s creamy and not matte – meaning it gives my lips fullness and dimension when worn. It also really lasts well through drinking and eating and they’re just really great all-round lipsticks. So I was happy to splurge and treat myself to the whole collection. My intention is to swatch all ten on my YouTube channel in January, so keep an eye out!
If you’ve not yet tried the brand, and you’re looking for a good place to start with Bobbi Brown, then a great set would be their Life of The Party Lip & Eye Palette. Housed in it’s own seriously sexy casing, this palette contains a versatile nude toned lipstick, and then four neutral/nude toned eyeshadows. The shadows vary in finish between matte and shimmer, and combined with the versatile nude tones, this palette is everything about Bobbi Brown you’ll grow to love: everyday colours and products to create flawless, subtle looks that really do give the prettiest make up finish. This palette will allow you to create a subtle smokey eye that will suit any skin tone or eye colour and the complimenting lipstick also means that you can complete the look with ease. Plus it’s a great handbag size.
Going back to the place I started my discovery of their products: the Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow Palettes, this Christmas has seen some seriously impressive limited edition palettes hit the range. So gorgeous they sold out quickly, but you can still find stock of the Smokey Crystal Eyeshadow Palette at Debenhams and in-stores. It’s an eight shade palette with all the colours you need to create party-season and festive looks. The shades all have that natural vibe about them, the vibe you know and love from Bobbi Brown. But they sure pack a lot of punch – the pigment is rich and enticing and has a high payoff. With mattes, shimmers and *eek* glitter shadows, this is the special one to add to your collection.
If you’re looking for a single shadow to try first (because trust me, once you’ve tried the Bobbi Brown shadows, you’ll never look back) then go for one of the Luxe Eye Shadow in the Rich Metal finishes – they sparkle and shine and catch the light in all the right ways, which makes it the perfect place to dip your toe in the water. Shade High Octane has a nice purple tint with silver/gunmetal grey shimmer flecks that grab the attention. It’s a great single shadow.
Another palette, but part of it’s own limited edition collection is the Camo Luxe Palette. I swooned hard as soon as I saw this, so it’s well worth adding to your collection if you’re decluttering the eyeshadow palettes in your life. The reason this one makes a great palette for your refresh is because the shades have a khaki twist to them. They’re still the trademark cool/nude tones, but with a subtle khaki twist – so it’s a way of adding a different colour to your original shadows. Another reason this is a great addition is because it has a really large highlighter which mixes tones so it’s highly pigmented with bronze and gold colours. Which means you’ve got two products in one palette. Plus, have you ever seen such a gorgeous collection from Bobbi Brown?!
While you’re refreshing your own make up collection, you may want to help someone else do theirs too. A perfect way to introduce someone else to Bobbi Brown is with a set like their Deluxe Eye & Cheek Set. Which is exclusive to John Lewis and Bobbi Brown. (So those are the only two places that it’s available.) The set contains a 12 shade eyeshadow palette and quad blush palette to match. The eyeshadow palette has those icy cool tones for a natural and subtle smokey eye, in fact the mix of shades makes it truly special as you’ll be able to create everyday smokey looks with ease. And the blush shades are so versatile too. It’s the perfect gift for those who you would love to introduce to Bobbi Brown make up too.
So if you needed any more excuses to refresh your make up this Christmas, here you have all the gorgeous Bobbi Brown goodies to tempt you. And they’re worth every penny – think of it as an investment in next year’s make up…
