Marc Jacobs Beauty is without doubt one of those brands that people need to try more from. But because it’s not as easy to pick up their products, it’s still relatively undiscovered compared to other brands. Which actually I love because it makes it feel even more luxurious and exclusive when I use the products. Like I’m part of an elite little gang. But that said, I can’t keep it a secret any more because I’m all for raving about the products that outperform and surpass expectations: so it’s high time I talked about these. And it’s Marc Jacobs Beauty for the win, my friends.
I think it was the primers that first drew me in this year, the limited edition coconut one that was like gold dust to get hold of. And since then I’ve made a point of picking up the products that I want as soon as I see them – because I don’t want to miss out again. Which means I’ve amassed a nice little collection in just a few months. The most notable has to be my Eye-Conic eyeshadow palette. Yes, another palette! They don’t call me the queen of the palettes for nothing you know! Anyway, this one is special. Just look how sexy her packaging is and I’m sure you’ll fall in love with her as much as I did…
Mine is the Scandalust palette, which features seven warm tone shades, all on the pink/red spectrum – so it’s a very versatile colour selection. Not only that but it’s great for seasonal changes like autumn and winter, so it’s a great buy at this time of year. The shades also come in a mixture of finishes – matte, shimmer and satin so you can create a huge range of styles from smokey eyes to barely there looks. It’s one of those great for everyday palettes that you’ll get a lot of use out of. The slimline case also makes this a really easy-to-pop-in-your-bag and go palette. It’s sleek enough to fit in your handbag and there’s just the right amount of shades for the days when you’re on the go. (Because no one wants to carry around those huge 30+ palettes you get!)
The pigmentation is also really impressive across the finishes. You expect metallic and shimmer finishes to have a much better pigmentation than the mattes in pretty much all palettes, but I was very pleasantly surprised with the payoff even the mattes give. The metallics obviously are lovely, but the mattes also give a deep colour payoff with very minimal product. A very light and powdery texture, they also blend really nicely on the eye which is perfect for creating a seamless transition and crease. (And key in creating a good smokey eye.)
With a brand like Marc Jacobs, you do have a real sense of having something special in your hands when you use their products, and no matter what anyone says, I get a thrill every time I use mine. It’s probably one of the many reasons I love the brand so much. So altogether I treasure my Scandalust Eye-Conic Palette!
Not just satisfied with the palette, I’ve been building up a lipstick collection too. Which started last year when I picked up a Sephora exclusive set featuring lip gloss and lipstick. I was so impressed with the formula that I’ve been adding lip products to my stash since. Most recently a collection of the New Nudes lipsticks – because let’s be honest, you can’t go wrong with a good nude, right?!
In my collection I’ve now got 102 Strange Magic, 152 In The Mood and 156 Hey Stranger. Which give me a good colour base of nude tones. The colour pay off of all the lipsticks is good, the formula is so creamy that they just melt onto the lips and you only need one layer and you’ll have maximum payoff. Which means the lipsticks too are a worthwhile investment because they’ll last and last.
Strange Magic has to be the one I reach for the most. It’s a baby pink nude, very pastel in shade and it really makes a statement when I wear it. It looks lovely on me as someone with very fair skin, and I’d recommend trying it out as something different in your collection. I also wear In The Mood quite a lot because although it looks to have a coral tone in the tube, when worn it’s just a very nice and subtle nude. With a hint of brown, it works on all skin tones making it the most versatile shade in my collection so far – this one is for everyone. And last but not least in the lipstick front is Hey Stranger which is the darkest of my New Nudes – I’m waiting for autumn to crack this one out because it’s that perfect dark red/plum tone that works so well in the cooler months. I can’t wait to team it with a smokey eye and a chunky scarf this autumn!
Then last but by no means least is the second Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer of my collection. This one is shade 312 Sugar Sugar and the product I use the most of everything because this one is always in my handbag. It’s a gloss-like finish with the pigmentation of a lipstick so it’s perfect for when you’re out and about because you just slick it on and you’re good to go. It’s really comfortable to wear and for someone like me who loves dimension in there lip finishes, this gives me the perfect level of shine. And if you want extra colour then slick it over the top of a lipstick – I pair mine with the New Nudes Strange Magic a lot for the perfect pale pink nude lip. It’s an all year round winner.
So those are all the new additions to my Marc Jacobs Beauty collection, there’s some absolute gems in here and all of these products take pride of place in their own Marc Jacobs drawer of my make up tower. (No other brands allowed in that drawer, these are too special to share their place, ha!)
