How To Look Like You’ve Had 8 Hours Of Sleep When You’ve Really Had 4

How To Look Like You've Had 8 Hours Of Sleep When You've Really Had 4

I’m forever on the go. I struggle to switch off. Life keeps me busy.

Sound familiar?

Well if so, join the club! I’m the busiest I’ve ever been: running around after a one-year old who’s just learned to walk (and also leaned to say no to me) and a highly energetic 8 year old who goes to more school events and football clubs than I have hot meals. On top of that I have Lady Writes – a thriving multi-faceted business which is my third baby and requires just as much (if not more) attention than my kids. Throw in a house to maintain, a home life to sustain and a wedding to plan…well, you get my drift. I’M BUSY. Gah.

The downside of my busy life is that I struggle to switch off at night. Sometimes I have to work late, or travel home late and sometimes my kids get up multiple times in the night. My fiance also has a bad back so he usually likes to wake me up and grumble about the mattress, the bed, it’s too hot or too warm in the bedroom…you name it, I have it as a sleep interruption. Which means that even on the nights when I do switch off and get to sleep, I’ll be awake again within a few hours. Tough life hey?

Whatever your interruption may be, it’s quite likely you’ll experience times where you get less sleep. And then an all-day reminder the next day because quite frankly, our skin and bodies never let us forget when we’re not getting enough Zzz’s. So I along with Marks & Spencer thought we’d help you out – because we’re nice like that you see. These are the amazing products that will help you fake it til you make it, and look like you’ve had 8 hours of sleep when you’ve really had 4. Starting with some quick-fix skincare saviours…

Seolista Brightening Instant Facial Sheet Mask – £8

First things first, your skin is going to lack radiance if you’ve not had enough sleep. Because if you don’t feel radiant, then neither will your skin. So a heavy hit in the form of a Seolista sheet mask is a fab way of getting that glow back. The Brightening Instant sheet mask is lovely – just relax for 10 minutes and your skin is instantly perked up. It’s naturally derived with coconut and Vitamin C so it not only awakens the skin but brightens it all over too.

Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels – £25

I don’t know about you, but when I’m tired my under eyes give it away. The dark bags are so noticeable and I also get quite puffy eyes if I’ve not slept well, so these Skyn Firming Eye gels are effectively patches that work wonders at taking down that tiny bit of inflammation and depuffing all over. You only need to use them for ten minutes so they’re great first thing in the morning and in the evening too as part of pamper time. The cooling sensation is really refreshing as well, so they’re an all round winner on restoring your eyes when you haven’t had much sleep.

Formula Absolute Ultimate Sleep Cream – £22

If you’re going through a spell of not getting enough sleep (young children, insomnia etc) then prepare for it ahead of the nighttime, with a good overnight face product. Formula Absolute Ultimate Sleep Cream is a rich moisturiser that you apply before bed and sleep in, to encourage skins restorative process overnight. This means you should wake up with softer and smoother looking skin in the morning. It will keep things hydrated while you sleep and continue to deliver nourishment throughout the night – whether you’re awake or asleep. It also contains wonder ingredient hyaluronic acid, so it plumps any lines or wrinkles intensively overnight too.

Formula Absolute Time Capsules – £20

After using the Absolute Ultimate Sleep Cream, in the morning you can switch to the Formula Absolute Time Capsules. Which are little pods of wonder. No really, they are. Applied to clean, dry skin, the serum within will actively combat the fine lines around the eyes and the more stubborn wrinkles you may have – the ones your daily moisturisers can’t usually touch. These aren’t just great for anti-ageing, but also for tired skin that’s just showing the cracks of not enough rest. I am loving these folks, so I highly recommend them.

Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo – £23

Pricey for a dry shampoo, but oh-so worth it. I have used this every other day on non-hair wash days, since it arrived and I am like HALLELUJAH! The powder formula in the Aveda Shampure is perfect for the days when you can’t/don’t have time to wash your hair. You squeeze the bottle and it directs the powder where you want it to go. It takes the shine off unwashed hair and means it’s thicker and fuller again and so much easier to style. I have such fine hair that this is a life saver when I don’t want to wash my hair everyday. I can’t rave about this enough. Plus messy hair could be a giveaway to lack of sleep – but not with this!

Stila One Step Correct Primer – £24

This Stila One Step primer/serum combo is a lifesaver when you don’t want your skin to look knackered. It’s a colour correcting product so has particles to colour match your skin and neutralise redness etc. I’ve reviewed this fully before, because it’s so good at creating the perfect skin base. And I still use this now. It’s going to cover those bags, neutralise redness and just generally even out the tone of your skin more. Hiding all your imperfections, this will really give the illusion that you’ve had 8 hours of sleep when you’ve really had 4!

Formula Micellar Cleansing Wipes – £4

Annnnd after a long day, you’ve come back round to bed time again. Remove all traces of the day with the Formula Micellar Cleansing Wipes which will take away dirt as well as make up, so you’re good to go at bed time without any fussing or faffing. Ultra hydrating, they add a nice dose of hydration and don’t leave skin feeling taut.

Neom Tranquility Scented Candle – £17

Last but not least, if you want to look less like you’re exhausted, then do everything you can to at least encourage enough sleep. Lighting the Neom Tranquility Scented Candle before bed will help to scent the room as well as relax you enough to invite a restful bedtime. You’ll feel more relaxed and unwind before you get into bed, taking all the stresses away. The more relaxed you are before bedtime the better you’ll get to sleep, so encourage that state of relaxation with some down time.

REN Pillow Spray – £18

And last but not least, a good pillow spray. These have become big news in health and beauty over the last few years with everyone who’s anyone trying them out. I love the REN Pillow Spray quickly spritzed across my pillowcase before I go to sleep to give that aromatherapy scent that encourages deep sleep. The mix of essential oils relax and banish stress and therefore it should help you to drift of to sleep quicker.

So using this post should help you to look a little less tired and a lot more ready for the day, no matter how many hours of sleep you’ve had. If you know the trouble areas that lack of sleep can effect, then prepare for them and treat them with all of the above from Marks & Spencer’s amazing beauty department – and even if you do only get 4 hours sleep, you’ll still look like you’ve had 8!

Some gorgeous products there. The sleep I get is never restorative sleep, so I can sleep for 12 hours or 2 and I will feel just as tired. Thank god for skin care, eh! 🙂 x

  2. I adore this post so much! These products sound amazing and I’m definitely going to add them to my basket. I have suffered with insomnia for a few years now, sleeping tablets often help but now I’m doing 12 hour shifts, sleeping 4 hours really isn’t enough and it definitely shows. Thank you for sharing! <3

Love your picks! I wish I had time in the morning to do a good sheet mask but I’m in a rush as it is. The eye gel masks might be more doable for me! I have a couple from Wander Beauty that I still have to crack open.
