Taking My Summer Glow In To Autumn

Chloe Brewer - Lady Writes

When it comes to the summer, we all embrace the golden goddess within, right? This year especially, thanks to the heat wave, we had so much sunshine that even the palest of us managed to catch some rays – me included. It takes me forever to tan because I’m so fair skinned, and usually I’m donned in fake tan to give the illusion that I’m a natural shade of bronze because it’s so rare that I ever have an actual tan. It’s something I love about the summer – the opportunity to slowly get a real and proper tan – especially when I go on holiday. This year we went to Crete for a week and had the best holiday, doing nothing but lay in the sun, swim and drink cocktails. I managed to get the best colour I’ve had in years, which was quite an accomplishment for me (miss pale) so I decided that when I got home I’d be taking my summer glow in to autumn with me – no matter what.

I’d hand selected the make up products that I took away with me to maximise the tan I planned for and also to make it easy to create that glowy look that’s so stunning on tanned skin. I also hand picked them to make sure I could continue to use them way into autumn and duplicate my summer glow – no matter what the season. Admittedly I do buy certain key make up staples each season (plum lips in autumn, bronze highlighter in summer etc) but generally I try and make sure I pick versatile products when I’m buying new make up. It just makes more sense to me as you’ll get far more use out of things.

Crown Brush Review

So when sorting my summer make up, I made a stop at Crown Brush and picked up some staples. Staples intended to maximise the summer glow, but also take me through to autumn. And I’m so pleased with the bits that I picked because I’m still using them now as much as when I was on holiday – showing they’re versatile investments. Plus when you buy from Crown Brush, you have the confidence that you’re buying from the manufacturer so you know the quality will be ace.

First on my list had to be the Crown Brush OMG Palette – because *heart eye emoji* it’s just so damn beautiful! Plus it’s only £24.99 for 35 shades, which is an absolute bargain in my book – as all Crown Brush products are. Feauturing a lot of lovely warm tones along the bronze and gold spectrum, it’s also got cool toned smokey colours to create the perfect smokey eye. I found the metallics in this palette to outperform a lot of similar brands because one swipe is all you need for full colour payoff. And when I say ‘full’ I mean full because the pigmentation in these pack a whole lot of punch. There’s lots of metallic finishes in the palette itself, along with mattes and satins too, so you can really create a whole range of eye looks with this one palette. Plus it’s got a few select brighter colours for those days when you want a popping eye look as well. This palette is the perfect tool to get you through the summer months and into autumn and because there’s also some nice cool tones in it, so you’ll even find yourself reaching for it during the winter too.

And naturally, like the fries to your Big Mac, you need a good eye liner when you have a great eyeshadow palette. So I’d picked up the Ultra Skinny Eye Marker pen at the same time as the OMG Palette. The ultra fine nib has made creating wings on my hooded eyes a whole lot easier than pencils and it’s given me complete control too. I find the pigmentation really impressive every time I use it and the shape means it fits snuggly into my hand so you’re fully in control over the depth of the line and the shape too. Between this and the palette I’ve created some gorgeous eye looks over the past few weeks and I can’t wait to do some dramatic dark red and black smokey eyes, lined with this during Halloween too.

Crown Brush Golden Glow Liquid Illuminater.

A product you’ll likely think about for a summer make up essential is a liquid highlighter. The liquid versions just pack so much high intensity shimmer into them that you walk around in the sunshine with cheekbones the gods are jealous of. But seriously, who doesn’t love a liquid highlighter in the heat? But I’ve also started making an effort to use it now – as we head into early autumn, because paired with the right make up look – and applied with a sponge – I’ve found that I can still get the same pigmentation (yes girl!) but without it being to OTT for autumn. Applying with a sponge is the key because I’ve found it really helps to create more of a subtle glow that just catches the light. I also apply the liquid to the back of my hand first then dab into the sponge from there, this ensures the glow is minimal but pretty – perfect for when the tan has gone but you still want gorgeous cheekbones. The one I’m reaching for is the Crown Brush Golden Glow Liquid Illuminater.

Crown Brush Bronzer

Probably my favourite pick up from Crown Brush was the Bronzer – only £6.99 and it’s the shade I’ve been searching for everywhere – with no luck. Until now! This bronzer is pure matte – which is actually pretty hard to find now as everyone creates their bronzers with shimmer in the formula – and I use mine to contour with, and as someone with oily skin, I don’t want a bronzing powder for contouring my cheekbones with shimmer because within an hour it just looks oily instead of highlighted. This one is perfectly matte, feather light and easy to apply. Not only that but it’s the perfect cool toned bronzer – not warm in the slightest. Which again is actually harder than you’d think to find now. I’ve almost hit pan on mine because that’s how much I’ve used it, and for £6.99 you really can’t go wrong!

So now you’ve seen the products, let me show you another of my favourite looks so far with these products…

I love it when I finally get a natural tan, but it’s that process of keeping it I struggle with. Love the top ups and crown makeup is good x
