Lashes are in my opinion one of the most important parts of our make-up routines. Good looking lashes can take you from a 2-10 instantly – that’s how pivotal they are. Even when I’m going bare faced, I’ll always have put something on my lashes before leaving the house. Seeing as the eyes are the window to our souls, why wouldn’t you frame them?! Which is always my excuse when I buy more mascara or false lashes. No-one wants to be looking into a dull window right?! …I’m joking, but seriously, good lashes will transform your whole face.
Whether you’re a false lash lover, or a mascara hoarder, there’s some absolutely key lash essentials you’ll want in your make-up kit to keep you going for every eventuality and ensuring that your lashes are looking their very best at all times. Those key essentials are:
Christian Breton Eyelash Builder (£30)
When it comes to our natural lashes, we need to first start by taking care of them. The key to good looking lashes whether false or real, is that your own lashes are taken care off. A good product for ensuring your lashes are looked after, is the Christian Breton Eyelash Builder – a dual purpose product that will work in the morning as a daily primer underneath your mascara, and overnight as a strengthening treatment. Basically, by using this in the mornings you’ll find that it primes your lashes ready for your mascara, which should give them better support and see the mascara apply overall better to the lashes. A good primer also adds volume and brings out the best qualities of your chosen mascara. Then by using this overnight as a treatment, your lashes are being nourished and looked after, while also encouraging growth and thickness naturally. Continued use means your natural lashes will be thicker and fuller, and more healthy looking and feeling.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (£19, Debenhams)
Every girl needs a good, no a fantastic, mascara in her collection. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll try loads of different versions but always have a Holy Grail version. For me, my Holy Grail Mascara will forever be the Too Faced Better Than Sex. I’ve said it countless times here on the blog, and I say it a lot on social media, but you’ll be hard pushed to find a mascara that performs better than this. It’s perfect for everyday use because it thickens and volumises, without being clumpy. NO CLUMPS! It brushes on with a thick hourglass shaped brush, which stops the clumps by separating lashes, but the formula is still gorgeous and thick which makes lashes look really impressive. It’s got good hold and personally I never leave the house without this in my make-up bag.
Ardell Magnetic Lashes (£13,50 falseeylashes.co.uk)
When I heard about magnetic false lashes, I wondered if all my lash dreams had come true! Ardell have created a collection of key lash styles in – get this – magnetic version! No need for glue, and the lashes are reusable too. Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it?! First off, the reviews are true. They are hella hard to apply. The lashes come in two parts – an upper and lower tier. You have to apply one and hold it while you slot the other in place. And it’s difficult to get this to happen close enough to your lash line. HOWEVER, after a lot of trying, I found the knack of applying them – first I needed to slightly trim them, and then although Ardell recommended applying the top lashes first, I actually found they went on a lot better when the bottom set were first in place. Once you’ve taught yourself how to apply them, these really are a mess-free alternative to strip lashes and glue. Great for the days when you don’t have a lot of time but still want a false lash look. I also really recommend these to those who don’t like applying false lashes because of the glue – these really are a wonderful invention and I can’t believe they weren’t invented sooner. I think every girl should have a pack of Ardell Magnetic Lashes from falseeyelashes.co.uk in her make up kit.
Esquido False Lashes ($28, Esquido)
When it comes to false lashes all girls need a premium pair in their collection. You know, the best version, the snazzy ones and the special occasion ones. Esquido Mink Lashes offer the most stunning collection of fashion lashes which are worn by the likes of Rhianna and Gigi Hadid! I’ve got two styles – BFF and Voila Lash and they’re both very different in style – one is full and heavier in density and the other more butterfly in appearance. Together though they really are a gorgeous pair of lashes and the quality is undoubted. They’re the softest lashes I’ve ever owned and the accompanying glue is one of the best I’ve used. Girls often have drugstore brands of lashes for everyday wear, but for the special occasions, you’ll need some from Esquido.
So to cover all bases and eventualities, ensure your lash collection has one of each of these in and you’re good to go no matter what life throws at you!
