When it comes to blogging, Tanya Burr is one of the big names when it comes to lifestyle. She’s a great all rounder when it comes to her blog, and you’ll find a bit of everything there – exactly the kind of blog I like. Not long ago she launched her Soft Luxe Collection and I was excited to see what happens when bloggers do beauty…
Now, I’ve tried some of Zoella’s body products recently too, and for the price tag, I was really impressed. And I’ve also used a Carli Bybel palette which wasn’t too bad either. But I have to admit, I’m always a little dubious about products that could be classed as just piggybacking on a big name. However the colours in the new Soft Luxe Collection won me over and I was excited to give them a try.
The Soft Luxe Collection has multiple elements – nail varnishes, lip colours and two new eyeshadow palettes. All the colours in the collection are supposed to be romantic nude shades – think very feminine and understated. First of all, the names of the items are gorgeous – I love a good product name. I’ve got the Rhubarb & Custard Matte Lip and the Birthday Suit Palette. Cute names right?
So the Rhubarb & Custard Matte Lip is a liquid lipstick that genuinely rivals the big leagues. Those big brands dominating the liquid lipstick stakes right now? This one is genuinely every bit as good – and it’s only a fraction of the price. At only £5.99 it’s a complete bargain, and the price is one of the things that makes me love Tanya Burr cosmetics.
This shade is a gorgeous bright pink – think watermelon pink and you’re along the right lines. It’s vibrant and like all good matte lip products, the depth of colour is seriously intense. It’s bold – that’s for sure! But its such a pretty pink that it would be suitable for all skin types. It’s excellent quality as well because you only need a couple of light coatings and you’ll have full coverage. Allow it to dry for 10-20 seconds and the matte look is really impressive. There’s no denying it’s a matte finish! It’s a perfect summer colour, and it lasts for hours. Oh, and did I mention that it also smells lovely? Like pastries!
Then there’s the Birthday Suit Eyeshadow Palette which blew me away. Having never seen any of the Tanya Burr palettes in ‘real life’ before these arrived, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But the colours are beautiful! There’s two matte tones (Toast and Soft Truffle) a shimmer shade (Marzipan) and a glitter finish (Cocoa Sugar.) All shades are on the warm browns and neutral end of the spectrum, but they are just so beautiful. You can make a multitude of looks with this palette because it’s got you covered for a ‘barely there’ look as well as a shimmery and bold night-out or statement eye.
The pigmentation is also fantastic – the quality is really good. Considering the palette only costs £5.99, these are some well developed shadows. Birthday Suit does look better with an eyeshadow primer, and as long as you use one then the colours stay put all day without creasing or wearing off. They stay bold all day and it’s such a versatile palette that you can’t go far wrong with it.
I feel like Birthday Suit and Rhubarb & Custard work well together – both are fantastic shades for summer and I’m completely obsessed with the quality and performance of both.
However, I couldn’t resist also giving a couple of the original Tanya Burr Cosmetics a go. So while I was in the spirit of all things blogger, I decided to also try the original Hollywood Eye Palette and Rosy Flush Cheek Palette.
The Hollywood Eye Palette is another winner for me. Again, the shades are on the warmer end of the colour spectrum and it’s the same colour choice as before – 2 mattes (Bookworm and Nude Delight) a shimmer, (Gold coin) and a glitter finish (Enchantment.) I’d reach for this one more on a night out because the colours lend themselves to classic and sultry look. Enchantment is a particular favourite of all the shadows in the palettes – it’s a brown with gold shimmer, but also has larger chunks of matching gold glitter and it’s seriously impressive. Highly pigmented, these palettes are absolute bargains and I highly recommend them.
Then last but not least was the pretty Rosy Flush Cheek Palette which comes with bronzer, blush and highlighter. All three are shimmer finishes, which is great for matte skin tones. I have quite oily skin and have to be careful of bronzer and blusher with shimmer in it, but the colour depth in these powders is fantastic. It’s light enough for buildable colour but strong enough that it stays put and does it’s job at adding colour to your skin well. I absolutely love the highlighter, it’s called Oyster Shell and it’s a pale cream colour – which I’m absolutely loving right now. Perfect for pale skin tones, but it blends so well it would suit almost every skin tone too. Not bad for only £8!
So, I was intrigued to see if one of the Blog Queens could truly do beauty well, and let me tell you that I’m very impressed. I don’t often buy ‘drugstore’ brands these days when it comes to make-up. It takes a special brand to lure me to make a purchase, but I am surprisingly very impressed with all these goodies. Excellent quality, high performance, the colours are beautiful, they’re really lovely to wear AND all these products are well under £10 each. There’s absolutely no excuse not to give them a try. Bloggers do beauty best after all!
Will you be giving these a go?
