I’ve been a big fan of Smashbox since I tried their products nearly ten years ago after a visit to the States. They’re one of those brands who’s products never disappoint and they always seem to be introducing innovative must-have’s that I for one can’t resist. Their primers and their Photo Finish products have inspired lesser brands to try and create dupes – but these are still by far the best. They also pull out all the stops with regards to quality – I feel like a make-up pro when I use their products. So to share in my current Smashbox adoration, I wanted to tell you guys about the two products I’m loving most at the moment…
Smashbox L.A Lights Blush & Highlight Palette
Now we’ve FINALLY got some summer weather, I’m all over the perfect cheek look for this sunshine. I love the bronzed goddess look, but as I work in an office, I’m far more comfortable wearing pink tones on my cheeks during the day. Because I’m also sporting a nice (fake) tan at the moment, I’ve been looking for a blusher that’s a little darker than usual but also more of a suitable pink tone for a tan. Along came the L.A Lights Blush & Highlight Palette and it was a match made in cheek heaven.
There are three palettes available and I have Pacific Coast Pink, and the palette itself has three powders – two blushes and one highlight. What I absolutely love about the shades is that the colours all perfectly match each other. There’s two tones of blusher – one is a deeper pink and the other is a more natural pink. Which means you can layer them together or wear them individually depending on the cheek look you like. The highlighter perfectly matches the shades so looks good if you wear it alone or with one of the blush shades. No more worrying about clashing the colour of your blusher with your highlighter, because all three shades perfectly compliment each other.
All three powders are incredibly pigmented – ever high performance from Smashbox. I went for this palette shade because of the colours: the pinks have warm undertones, and the highlight has gold undertones in the shimmer. Meaning it’s the perfect palette for me. As a naturally pale person, the middle (lighter) shade of the blushers is my everyday colour – it’s delicate and natural looking, but still adds a hint of the pinched cheek look. It’s very easy to wear and layers up well for a buildable colour. However if you want a deeper colour (so medium to dark skin tones would look great with this everyday) or if you’ve got a tan, then the darker shade in the palette would be perfect for you. I like to apply the lighter shade as normal across my cheeks – I always apply blusher to the apple of my cheeks and then very lightly across my cheekbones, on top of my contour. I then add just a hint of the darker shades to the apple of my cheeks for a bit more of a colour pop.

Because the tones are warm, they work well with a tan. And I’m loving their staying power – you don’t need to re-touch your blusher at all when you use these. I apply in the morning before work and when I get home, the blusher is still firmly in place.
The highlighter is also very pigmented but the shimmer particles are tiny – no more chunks of glitter standing out – it’s a great light dusting that’s really easy and lovely to wear. I love wearing this because it’s delicate and not too in-your-face. It catches the light really simply and highlights your cheekbones in such a lovely and feminine way.
A little extra that I love about this palette is the Shape Matters Look Book that’s included, which is a really useful mini booklet that details how and where to apply blush and highlight in order to achieve specific looks and depending on your face shape etc. It’s got some great pro tips in it too and comes with the palette – a little extra that I love.
On a practical note – having my daily blusher and highlighter in one palette (plus an extra blusher to add that extra pop of colour if I want it) really saves space in my make-up bag and I can’t speak highly enough of how much I adore these shades, and how delicate and easy to wear the powder is.
So, falling head over heels in love with the L.A Lights Blush & Highlight Palette meant that naturally I wanted a new lipstick to compliment it – ladies, you can’t buy a major face product and not buy a matching lipstick, right?! (Please tell me it’s not just me?!)
Be Legendary Lipstick – Nude Beach
When it comes to lip products right now, everyone’s all about the mattes right? It seems like all the other finishes are just sitting there waiting to be noticed again, but Be Legendary Cream Lipsticks – I SEE YOU! And I LOVE you.
These lipsticks are amazing for those of you who like the matte lip (like me) but whose heart belongs to the more creamy, glossy finish when it comes to lip products. I admit to having a matte lipstick addiction, but I also know that when it comes to lip products I’ve sworn by cream and glossy finishes for my entire make-up wearing life. And they’ll always be my staple lip finishes.
So of course I went for the Be Legendary Lipstick. Nude Beach is a beautiful coral pink shade that’s not at all invasive. The colour is bold without being too bright and in your face – so it’s a beautiful way of wearing coral every day. It’s got just the right hint of nude pink in the colour too, which means it goes with everything, and I personally love how pretty it looks with a tan and with the L.A Lights Palette.
The Be Legendary lipsticks are really pigmented and last for ages. I know cream finish lipsticks don’t tend to last as long as matte lipsticks, but this one stays put for ages – even after drinking and eating. Which is always win/win for me! It glides on easily, it’s highly pigmented, the colour is lovely and it’s moisturising too because it has shea butter and vitamins C and E in it’s formula too – happy lips!
So those are my two current favourite from Smashbox – both are products you can wear every day and also for nighttime looks as well. As ever the quality is excellent and I highly recommend these two additions to your make-up collection. If your bank balanace complains at more make-up, just say Lady Writes told you to!
