Madame La La Tan

When it comes to my tan, I'm all about the bottled variety. I don't tan well naturally anymore and I don't use sun beds either, so if i'm looking more bronzed than usual, it's because I've used a fake tan. I love the tan look and feel so much better about my appearance with a bit of a tan. Most people do though, don't they?

Over the years I've tried practically every type of fake tan going. Some have been okay, some have been average and some have been poor. And even fewer have been what I'd call excellent fake tans. I'm on a journey to find the ultimate fake tan!

So when I got the opportunity to try Madame La La - I was excited. It's a luxury tan which retails at £29.99, so I had high hopes for it. It's classed as a DD Tan Perfector (Dynamic Do-All) which means it's suitable for face and body, so you won't need to buy separate varieties anymore. It's also a mousse tan, so I recommend you apply it with a mitt for the best coverage. (I never used to use a mitt for applying fake tan, how did I cope?! Now I swear by mitt application!)

The tan itself has coco water and aloe in it, so it's supposed to be good for your skin. Everyone is raving about coco-anything right now, so hearing that it was an ingredient in this made me hope for something a bit special with regards to the outcome. It's also got vitamin E and green tea in it too - so your skin will not only look great but feel good too.

So to apply - it's best to fully exfoliate first. I don't always have time for this but I recommend it for thorough and even application. Using the mitt apply the mousse and blend in. Madame La La recommend waiting 5 minutes before dressing afterwards. The box says that the tan is a quick dry tan that lasts for 10 days and it gives a deep golden colour within 3 hours - but they do say you shouldn't wash it off for 10 hours.

So what's my experience?

I've been using this for a month now and it's taken me a while to find an application and usage routine that works for me, but I'm pretty happy with how I'm using the tan now. Firstly, I have to apply this in the evening before bed. This is for multiple reason. Firstly the tan doesn't dry quickly at all - in fact, it's quite sticky when worn and that feeling doesn't go away until you wash it off. It's not a tan you want to apply during the day and then have to dress over. So for me, I can only use this overnight. Then I just sleep in loose clothing or my underwear to ensure as little material as possible comes into contact with the tan and my skin. If you've ever had a spray tan, it's like that: that wet and slightly sticky feeling. Secondly, the other reason I tan at night is the scent. It's not bad at all, but it's got that typical tan smell. Therefore it's another reason I couldn't use it during the day.

However - this is the very important bit - this colour coverage is the best of any fake tan I've used so far. Ever. After only one application I literally look like I've been on holiday! One coat is all you need for a deep and golden tan that has had people asking where I've been on holiday. I don't feel like I need more than one application to build the colour, after one night of wearing the tan in bed, my colour is perfect - far deeper than any other tan I've used after just one application. It doesn't need building! Hallelujah!

Because the tan is so intense, you need to be careful on your hands and wrists. To avoid lines, make sure you apply moisturiser to these areas after you tan. Then gently rub the palms of your hands over a flannel with warm water to remove traces of the tan from your palms.

Staying power...

So this tan does last for a good amount of time - 5 days to be approximate. But if you moisturise after every shower or bath it's going to be maintained a lot better. I find that if I don't moisturise then the tan cracks, and bunches together and gives that horrible grubby looking affect - so it's essential to moisturise. I make sure I do this more religiously, and am a little more generous with the body cream since I started using this.

To maintain the tan I start to exfoliate on day 3 or 4 before applying a new layer of the mousse on day five. This is really important - exfoliate, moisturise and reapply on day five. That's how you'll maintain the summer holiday looking tan.

So my thoughts? I'm one very happy madame! (Sorry, I couldn't resist)

Pro's
>Colour is FANTASTIC. Looks like you've been on holiday.
>Easy to apply.
>Streak free - literally, not a streak in sight. Ever.
>Easy to maintain when you get used to the routine.
>Fades evenly.

Con's
>Sticky, wet feeling when worn that doesn't dry.
>Smell is quite strong when wearing/developing.
>If you don't moisturise, you'll get very noticeable lines.

After one application of Madame La La Tan
So as you'll see, the pro's far outweigh the con's. Especially because the colour intensity is so deep and golden that it gets a much bigger pro point than anything else! If you're looking for a fake tan that gives the appearance of a spray tan, or even a week in the sun, then this is one I highly recommend. Get Madame La La from your local Superdrug.
