The only day of the year that I would even contemplate getting up at an insane hour and not feeling like I could drop-kick everything in sight... Did I mention that I'm not a morning person?!
I must admit that I'm not an avid Boxing Day Sales Shopper. Some years - most years, I just can't be bothered. The thought of getting out of bed with the head of someone who enjoyed a good amount of Prosecco the day before...well, quite frankly, I'd rather stay in bed. Plus, I'm not good with all those people who treat it like it's the Holy Grail of shopping. Yes, you can get some good bargains - brilliant. But is it really worth loosing your dignity over a saving? Really?!
However, all this said, I did end up going to the Boxing Day Sales super early this morning. Before you brand me a hypocrite, let me explain - it's brief..my son woke me up at 6:30am so I was awake. Then I started thinking about the potential goodies I had already thought may be going into the sales...and feeling unusually energetic for a morning, off we went. First thing. FIRST thing.
It was totally worth it though because the one thing, the ONE THING I really wanted in the sales, came home with me in a shiny new bag!
The Next Sale.
Those words make me shudder. By far it's the Don of Boxing Day Sales. With at least 50% off everything, their sale is always the one that attracts those people who will quite happily camp outside from midnight to be first in the store when it opens at early o'clock. I'm not one of those people.
Yet the one thing I had seen in Next before Christmas that I loved was a faux fur ombre gilet. It was just too pricey to justify and so the one thing that motivated me to get out of bed this morning was this gilet. I went to my local shopping centre and was really disappointed to not find any in the sale at all. However I managed to get this gorgeous set of pjs which were half price and only £12.
I love Next pjs, the quality is fantastic, they don't shrink or bobble and they last for ages. I just find it hard to justify £25+ for a pair of pjs when they are full price. So sale time is fab! I'm the type of girl who sleeps in leggings and a long t-shirt, so spending that sort of money on pjs isn't top of my priorities. I'd rather put it in my Mulberry Handbag savings! I also stocked up on cute animal themed socks at only £4 for a 4 pack. Uber cute, and who doesn't love a good pair of socks?
I also managed a cute little jewellery haul in the Next Sale. I'm all about Rose Gold at the moment. It's so weird because I've never liked anything except silver jewellery and now Rose Gold is my absolute favourite. So I stocked up on a few little bits with rose gold accents and details, and all for half price.
I'm also trying to get more organised and build up a box of cards, wrapping paper, gift tags etc so that through the year I've got something for all the occasions. This will mean no more stressful rushing to the shops on the day of someone's birthday etc. So I picked up each of these three co-ordinating bits for only 50p each - bargain, and keeping my card and gift box stocked.
Next I headed to Boots. And here I was hugely embarrassed to be a human. I've never seen such behaviour, and it reminded me that next year I'm staying in bed. People ran, YES RAN, to the perfume section. The discount is only about 10%-30% maximum on the perfume sets and yet, people were practically attacking each other over them. It didn't help that my local store shoved all the perfume gift sets in one corner - THE smallest corner of the store, but still, people were rude and abusive to each other. I had my little man with me and as we looked casually, people were banging into him and trying to force him to move. The lady that actually took him by the shoulders and moved him was the final straw - she got a piece of my mind. Don't touch my kid lady.
I did come away with a nice Prada Candy set though - but only because someone had abandoned it elsewhere and I picked it up. Otherwise I was refusing the perfume - out of sheer annoyance. Seriously people!? Get a grip!
Boots are amazing for Christmas presents aren't they? Their 3 for 2 gifts are probably resident in every house in the country during the festive season! One brand that was new to their range this year was Reiss. The epitome of sophistication, I had purchased one of their gift sets for a friend of mine as her Christmas pressie. Having then smelt it when she opened it, I knew I wanted to buy some for myself - especially as everything in the 3 for 2 at Boots then goes to 50% off int heir sale. So although at full price, the items are a bit pricey for smellies, at 50% off I was happy to stretch to two of their signature candles and a body and bath set, The candles smell absolutely divine - and yes, I picked up the last two in the store. Woohoo - score.
By this point I was fed up, tired and my feet hurt. And my although being a trooper, my little man was ready to head home. We felt exhausted and it was only 9:30am! This reminded me of why I usually avoid Boxing Day shopping! As we walked past, I decided to stop in at Accessorize on the way back and picked up nearly £30 worth of jewellery for £14 - of course, all of them were of the Rose Gold variety! The long chain necklace is something I had been admiring last week so I was quick to take it to the till before anyone else took the last one. Worth every penny of it's 50% off price tag.
On our way home we stopped at our local Tesco Extra - which has a really small Next inside. As we walked past, I thought I'd just have a browse...trying my luck, I asked one of the assistants about the faux fur gilet. She said they only had one left that went in the sale, and showed me where it was... and would you know, it was my size! Purchased quickly with a massive smile, I'd almost forgotten about the insane behaviour in Boots....almost.
And I got my furry gilet!
What have you picked up in the sales this year?
